Hey yall. My husband is considering doing the lease purchase with us xpress. He has talked to a recruiter and they want him in orientation on Monday in Dalton Ga. I have been reading these threads and none of them seem very positive. We have a six year old daughter and we really need a decent company. He has 4 years of experience. I am just very concerned. I do not want him to be all excited about a company and possibly owning his own truck only to be disappointed. Any advice that yall can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Candi

If he is driving a company truck I would tell him to stay in it. If he wants to make more, find another company or become a true O/O. If he still wants a lease purchase, tell him to stay in the company truck and spend all his money on lottery tickets, or the roulette wheel in Vegas. His odds of making money would be much better.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your response. I have been hearing lots of really negative things.

Greatwide has the best program; he will become an 0/0, not a L/0.
With a family to support he really should consider being company driver with a good tanker/hazmat company where he can take home over a grand a week.Skydivedavec and cnc8030 Thank this. -
NO to lease purchase. It's going to be sad and tough times, when the truck beaks down or he doesn't get the mileage and you get NEGATIVE paychecks. Then, you're down for a week and next weeks paycheck you make nothing or $50.00 because that's what's left after they take out what you owe. Example, my mentor bought a used truck from the company I drive for, for 75k, the same truck on the used truck market that the company sold off goes for 40k. He over paid $35k. LP = fail.

I would absolutely recommend him trying to find a good company and stay away from any lease purchase, especially with us express , and. don't even think about being an o/o untill he does some rresearch and saves up so.e money !!

I would strongly advise against him doing a L/P with USX.
The recruiters have a very biased interest in "selling" L/P's to those that aren't aware of al the negative implications it brings.
Recruiter will only stress the (unrealistic) positives, but not the very realistic negatives.
I suggest he stay as a company driver (if he chooses to stay with USX) for an income without the heavy deductions that a lease will bring.
Realistically, he would need to be making double his expected income, in order to comfortably be making truck payments.
L/P payments on a typical USX income would be a never ending battle just to try to maintain any income for the household.
I don't want to bust his "excitement" bubble on the idea of L/P, but I'm confident he'd thank me/us later. -
Become a real o/o or leave it alone...some ppl do ok in I guess....but the couple ive tried didn't work out. .
cnc8030 Thanks this. -
Attention: Before you read what I write.....remember that I agree with everyone else.
It's hard to succeed on a L/P but I have met several drivers who have at US Xpress. They've been driving for 10+ years so I would guess they know the business. Your husband has been driving for 4 years, he should stick to a company driver. All the guys who I've met except one that did well on it had trucks from 2006 and older.
I suggest he talk with the recruiter about getting on a dedicated account that gets him home on a regular basis. I think in the south they have a Target dedicated that might get him home weekly. Regular OTR gives you only 4 days off a month which sucks in my opinion.realsupatrucka, cnc8030 and MidnightStars20 Thank this.
