1WL are the best 3406E engines.

 

My friend in Texas has 1WL 3406E on his t600.

 

I have a 1WL 3406e also but why do you guys think it is the best. No doubt a great engine but why better than all others?

 

As a mechanic that worked on them from day one they were great, the very first one we got the rocker arm studs streatched and destroyed the head. 6 weeks to get a new head.
One bubble of air in the fuel system and it will not run. I changed cams like they were valve cover gaskets, some got three or four, rocker arms that bent, They finally got kits that gave you new rocker arm studs, Cams and rocker arms. These were low hour engines, what did Cat test the engine for an hour.
The very first "E" was a new head on a "C" block it still had the cam bearings in it just not drilled, It was a piece of junk Cat made to try and compete with the S60. Personally I loved them I made so much overtime fixing that piece of junk.
Lipstick on a pig, look at the EPA numbers on the oil cooler then compare to an N14 or a S60 at that same time. Personally I believe and it is proven when people purchased that motor you can sell anything to a fool.

Another very useful post???? We get it you don't like Cats. Your a wrench turner with some good and helpful tips once in awhile but trying to stir the pot makes you sound like a useless, cranky old man.

Whats wrong with what johnp3 wrote, sounds like he gave a pretty good knowledgeable description of what goes wrong with the engine. Are you saying he is just making that up because he hates Caterpillar engines?
I have no knowledge of the difference between Caterpillar, Cummings or Detroit other than them being from different makers -meaning i have no loyalty to any of them.
So why do you guy's like the 1WL 3406E, are they maintenance free or just good runners in your opinions --inquiring minds want to know.
