I'll tell ya what funny is....... thinking that Mercer turnover rate is 30%...... now that's funny. With all the trucks Mercer leases on they still stay around 2500 trucks. Are we to assume the other 70% are retiring????

A lot of factors goes into the numbers like avg. 6 classes per month (2 per week but not every week).
Not sure what you consider a full class. But avg. class is only 4 trucks
Some before getting signed on, possibly because of a poor truck.
Sadly quite a few quit within couple months because not a right fit. I think this is because Mercer and Landstar have a very different way of dispatching loads being a true non forced dispatched.
The number doesn't actually stay at 2500. Three years ago, it was less than 2000 trucks. And 5 years ago it was down close to 1200. -

Hey guys, after a couple year break to try local work I am back OTR and looking to buy another truck. While digging around I found this thread and Mercer seems like it would be a good fit for me. Just wanted to ask a couple questions first.
I was leased onto Mawson & Mawson about 3 years ago so I have experience with load securement but have 0 experience with tarping (Mawson was all covered wagon freight). Does the securement class cover tarping? I know I don't have to take loads that require tarping, but if I'm gonna run an open deck rather than a covered wagon I'd at least like to know the basics.
Second, what kind of freight does Mercer have running into Canada? I live near Buffalo NY and alot of times taking loads up to Hamilton or Stoney Creek Ontario is how I got home. Besides, while I was at Mawson I was one of the few O/O that asked for Canada freight on a regular basis, it always kept me moving and paid enough to make the border crossing worth the hassle.
The dispatch system you have at Mercer sounds very similar to what I dealt with at Mawson and I liked it alot. It sounds like you guys are getting a better rate than I was getting AND you have lighter freight. Running steel I was always 40-45k per load, sometimes more. Not knocking Mawson mind you, was a great place to work and really nice people to deal with, I'm just looking for something a little more this time around.
Thanks in advance guys.
