That's still pretty crappy to charge someone like that. Kinda like a cop giving you a speeding ticket for one MPH over.As far as whining about how they have nice expensive cars I'm with ya. What are they supposed to drive? A rusted out Ford Pinto? I am so sick of this entitlement mindset. If you want a freaking Bentley do what Mr. Aaron did work your butt off and start buying trucks. And no you should not be paid more. Stevens is a training company. Not a carrer company. They take a huge risk bringing drivers into the door with no experience and usually not one skill but how to flip a burger. You don't get to demamd a #### thing. Once you prove yourself that's a different story. Do I think the Aarons are angels? There are things I question but it is not my place to say anything. I doubt I would run the company any better.

LMFAO funny how perception comes from many angles. First, I am a free market capitalist. NOT a crony capitalist. I don't begrudge any man making an excellent living but I am free to question the manner in which he makes it. To "clip" a driver for almost 10% of his take home pay ( lease gross was a bit over 200k, costs reduced net to around 50k, settlement was debited a little more than 4k of which the new driver, with permission of the shop foreman, agreed to pay for and take possession of said items as he was there to move in while my brother was packing up)
As for the finer things in life, those are for showing off at the country club NOT to those who put in the labor that makes you rich. Mr. Stevens lives in one of the nicest neighborhoods in DFW and good for him, however if its at the questionable expense of 40-60k per year employees, I'd have an issue with. Insofar as respectable? I don't know, several companies have had LONG battles with Stevens trying to verify former employees driving records. It APPEARS the company THINKS they own these records after a driver leaves. Seen it several times with this company.

Well somebody does not understand what being a lease driver means... Stevens does NOT verify your employment once you sign a lease agreement, as you are NO longer an employee. Once you sign that lease, you are an independent contractor, and to verify your employment the future company needs to contact the company you set up when you signed the lease.

The lease is written to protect stevens, and they do enforce it. Don't like the terms of the lease, then don't sign one. I completed 2 leases with stevens, and was never charged for anything that was not spelled out in the lease. I even received a nice settlement after completing my 2nd one, and severing my services with stevens.

The same could be said about the plantation owners some 150 years and in my own personal opinion, there is not too much difference between drivers for Stevens or any mega truckload carrier and the plantation owners.

Here is the basic concept, as far as I understand it.

This is the bad company section of this website.

    Stevens,

    with their terrible wages,

not to mention pushing new drivers into a lease, most definitely belongs in this section.

Perhaps there is another section of this website, where the cheerleaders can post their opinions.

Yes, this is the bad company section. And everyone is entitled to their opinion...right, wrong or misinformed.
But just to set the record straight...Stevens does not push people into leases. It's a choice made completely by the driver and he/she must qualify to be accepted. (a process that takes several weeks).
As for wages? Yes, they are low paying compared to full freight companies. Just like every other training company.
But you don't go to Stevens for a career, you go there to become a driver, establish experience, then likely move on.
Just like nearly every other training company.
It is extremely rare that a person, with no experience, can be hired into a career company from the start.
Do we criticize Wal-Mart or Poly trucking because they discriminate against new drivers?
    Everyone has their criteria.

Cmon Emulsified, dont kid yourself. In order to "complete" my check list to get off the yard I had to sit through at least 2 different 1 on 1 "sales" presentations of why I should lease a truck.

I think most people would call being forced to attend a mandatory "amway" meeting on WHY YOU SHOULD BE MAKING BIG BUCKS not small bucks "pushing" the lease.

Ok, low wages yes... But like was said, this is a training company. Get your training then leave!

As for hard sales on the lease, when I was there I was NEVER pressured to lease. Yes I had a one on one but I told the guy that I wasn't interested at the time and maybe interested later. Never heard from Alliance again.
