The motor that's in a truck that stays together and cost the least to maintain is the best for low end power and trq.

So if you were to gross 100k pounds in a truck with a very simple easy to maintain, 220hp engine thats the best? Reminds me "In Communist Russia, the engine doesn't power the truck, the truck powers the engine" ( i had too haha :biggrin_25519: ) but if thats a question Dude is asking i wanna know the answer from John

Exactly, you don't need a dragster to pull 100k.

But then the same is true about any engine under any weight. But it is true, all engines have different problems, my 3406 is the best because it has stays together

You can get any job done with the correct trans and gear ratio. Within reason though.

My 3406e just had a cam go bad with all the rockers. Gona cost me almost 3 grand for new cam and all new rockers.
But then it does have 900K on it.

It's bad enough that everyone else has the mentality the a driver's time is worthless. It seems that even those that are " pro" driver think the same thing. My time is valuable to me. the faster I can get a load done the more profitable my time. I don't drive recklessly up and down the highway or in the parking lots but I can make better time than most. Why? Because I have a truck that can maintain the speed limit up hill as well as down. I've been told that it does not make much difference how fast you drive. I say only if you're mathematically challenged. One of my drivers the other day was commenting on his GPS saying someone had done 93 mph in his truck(pickup). How do you know was my question. I guess the gps that I buy keep track of such things. Which led to a conversation with another driver to say the least but that's another story. I checked mine and it keeps track of your average speed for up hill and down. My average speed was faster on the up hill side by just over 2 mph. Most of the roads I drive are in Pa across 22 and 99 mostly! I said all that cause I think about how it used to be climbing hills with the 4 ways on waisting my time. Thanks to some fine folks like Mr Haney I get to spend more of my valuable time doing other things the crawling up a mountain.

Like I said there is a tag on all engines that tells you how much MM3 of fuel it takes to make HP. The most eficient class eight was the early, 430 HP Detroit, S60 it's number was 198 3406C was also very fuel eficient, and if left stock would last a long time. They had a few problems when new with the ECM, they would shut down and not tell you why. Most of it was a personality chip problem. Most of the "C"s were relished to the pebal hauling business, in this area. They got great service from them.
Many people get on hear and talk, I was going to say blabber, about all the extra HP they get and how fast they go, there is no such thing as free HP, it all takes fuel. My favorite engine is the one you have that makes you the most money. It does not mater if you can go faster than somone in a pedal bike what matters most is how much money you have in the bank at the end of the month.
I have seen guys spend big coin on putting in fancy stereo's, and new seats then when they got into an acident, did not have the money to stay afloat.
We repaired a fleet of trucks that pulled the Chokahalla 144.000 lbs over two mountains one pull was 55 minutes, at a 95% power factor the difference in time with a 430 N14 compared to a a 500 cat was less than 5 minutes but the fuel burn was 5 gallons more a trip.
You drive and or own a truck to make money not to look cool or brag about your motor making a thousand HP, it is about making money and staying safe. I hope you all make a good dollar in the new year and stay safe!
    Just a thought!
