Grey plastic and vinyl? My Volvo is white cloth, and leather, nice leather, seats have back cyclers and heat! I have a table/ workstation, factory inverter that has shore power and a battery charger, in other words, it's loaded, way better appointed than any new Pete can be off the lot I looked, I drove the Pete's, they were noisier, rode harsher, had less room, WAY less comfort, than my Volvo, I don't need a chrome ##### extension, I want to feel comfortable and in good shape AFTER my 650 mile day, Volvo delivers that AND better MPG!! Tool? Yes!! Nice quiet well appointed money making tool, it even has chicken lights and stainless!

Let your mind loose, I get to look at the OUTSIDE of my truck a couple times a day, and while its not a long low 379 ( and if I was going that route I'd get a real truck anyway LOWMAX!) it looks good BUT it's what the inside looks like and perform like!! And inside, this truck is loaded with comfort!! They ALL have plastic inside now even your precious Pete's, come towards the light!! It's the 21s century!!! Lol

I have to to say I'm totally with you here, image doesn't concern me at all, I like comfort, when I was running my own trucks fuel consumption , uptime and driver satisfaction were very important to me, for long haul I too would choose the Volvo, if anything the interior is better quality! On my last Pete which was festooned with cheap imitation leather, the doors didn't seal properly, the clutch pedal is just plain silly, it's noisy, door on sleeper compartment let water in, driver station is way too small and all those gauges..... There's no way everybody keeps an eye on them all of the time, some didn't work anyways, that said I loved the view down the hood while driving. Another big plus in my book is the Volvo has a Swedish crash standard cab, the worlds strongest! The cab pillars are designed to take a static load if 15 metric tonnes when European standard is 10, my old Pete I'm guessing wouldn't take 2 tonnes, aluminium paneling and fiberglass doesn't tend to do well in a rollover, as well as that the driver station is so small that any cab intrusion will come into contact with the driver, id like to try a kW t2000, looks like a fine truc

I think the t2000 are plain ugly. Never drove one but just don't like the styling Of it at all. I'd like to drive a Pete or kW just so I can form a first person opinion of them. From what I've seen they are over priced. Kinda like Cadillacs. Yeah they are nice vehicles but your only paying for the name. When you get down to it they are all basically the same. The most driver friendly truck I ever drive was a 2013 Volvo. It was great. Big bunks, lots if storage, 120v outlet from factory, lots of room and it drive nice.

Every body has "their" thing. Even as to why we are in the trucking industry we have our different reason's. I don't care much for the Volvo's, yes they are roomy but I don't need the room. I can reach across the cab of my 359 Pete and roll the pass side window up or down. No there isn't alot of room between the back of cab and steering wheel but I'm not a big guy. I don't cook in the truck, watch t.v., I drive and sleep. I don't still run a 1985 359 cause I have to I do because its what I wanted. I was able to make it mine so to speak, so it fits me. We should all be so lucky to drive what we like, that's the reason so many different trucks are built. You can drive what you like, to some it doesn't matter what it is only the money at the end of the week. All in all none of our reason's for what truck we prefer are bad ideas.

If you're a trucking company, after 50k to 60k miles on the odometer, your fleet of trucks will have an increased likelihood of breaking down, then dispatch calls the customer to say the load will be late because of a tire blowout or delays due to accidents on your route. If he tells the truth (increased wear-n-tear because the trucks have too much mileage), customer will defect to JB Hunt, Swift, Werner, etc... who have newer truck fleet and not likely to suffer break down and late deliveries.
So you call Peterbilt, Kenworth, International, look at the models they offer, what engine and tranny options there are. the performance and mileage spec of each option, they you say "how much for 200 tractor units?" Then you negotiate trade-in value for 200 of your oldest trucks. You're rotating your fleet to replace your oldest trucks with brand new tractor units. You shop around for the best deal from each truck manufacturer. Your company runs Peterbilts because they submitted the best package deal for a fleet of 200 brand new truck units.

Drove nothing but pos Freightliners til I finally went out on my own. Bought me a 1 owner 03 Pete 379EXHD with the CAT 6NZ 550HP 13Speed 3.55s and never regretted it. The company I used to drive for is buying new FLs now and they are having major problems at a year old.
The W900s are nice trucks too. I looked at them as well.

That's because the newer vehicles are designed to absorb the impact of a impact and displace it (pieces flying everywhere) so that the shock doesn't transfer to the driver and seriously injure them. Remember- a vehicle is replaceable, a person is not. I'd rather total a truck then kill myself.

My Volvo was just as much as a Pete, if I wanted one I would have one, and yes a long low hood all tricked out looks awesome, ill never says it doesn't, ( once again I'd do a LOWMAX!!!) but to ME isn't practical. To each their own!! Same with bikes, I've owned 2 Harley's, they are just not reliable enough, I have a Kawasaki nomad, an older 900 ninja, a 71 A1SS and now I picked up a 2011 victory vision, if the victory is as reliable as it handles and runs I will be selling the nomad. Function over form!
