I personally prefer to run cobra or unidens with a a few mods I was taught by a great tech. Audio is crystal clear, with just enough swing, and drives a box with a built in driver section great.

    DANG ......

I use to like my old 829B tubes running a white hot grid glowing through a red hot plate :biggrin_2559:

Only seeing 6 miles out of a Cobra 25? You should see 8-10 miles. Seems that something is wrong with your set-up. And running the RK-56 mic isn't helping. Most newer rigs don't need noise cancelling mics which only lower Modulation. But most drivers will run one. And don't understand that they are not power mics. They lower background noise as well as your Modulation. You may want to adjust VR-5 to increase your audio, and L-10, L-9, & L-8 for a little more power.

I thinks its about to kick the can and plan to pull it out here in the next couple days. I recieves as good as it always did but I am now having problems talking. It seems like its only deadkeying. I switched mics thinking that was the easy fix but it didn't help. Its doing this 75% of the time now. I am dying to open it up and see what it looks like inside. I have never done anything to a radio but may do some expiernenting with this one. It was given to me 2 years ago. I don't know if anything has been done to it. Maybe a tune at most. When it does talk the other drivers say it loud a clean but it doenst have talkback and I don't trust talkback any how. I think your radio sounds different over the air then through your talkback. Because what I think sounds nice and clean some say its not. I have a power/swr meter will it allow me to open it up and turn some screws and show me any improvement or deprovement lol. I think the RK56 is the best sounding mic. It may reduce power but they say it talks like a powermic. IDK but I do like the way it sounds. I also use a skythumper 56 that sounds louder and more powerful but it also pics up just a tad more background noise. I was shocked just know I was getting out that far with the little 25. I figured maybe I was getting out 4 or 5 miles topps. For what it is I like the little radio. It was free and it sounds clean on air. They say it sounds better then my old stryker and my old but mewer style 29 I had. I just doesnt recieve as good as the stryker did or get out as far.

Does a galaxy 94hp have to be hooked up directly to battery post or can I hook it up to power post in the cab of my rig?
    thanks

From what I've read, these radio's are doing better than 100 watts. Going straight to the battery is probably a good idea. Not sure what the in cab posts in the typical truck are rated for. Maybe some knows? Or does it vary from truck manufacturer to the other.
