Maybe some people just feel differently about additives so who knows. you enjoying the weather here in Atlanta cause it's not to bad compared anywhere else but it still is cold either way even though I got a friend who just walks out in this weather in shorts and a short sleeve shirt.

The block heater will actually warm and circulate the fuel in most set ups. Some will keep the oil warm as well. Block heaters work until about 08 degrees if you plug in the truck when warm. Below that they'll struggle to keep up. Below 5.degrees the only sure way for the truck to startis by idleing.
Beyond fuel gelling the other thing you have to worry about in this weather is battery life. Monday morning in Green Bay I shut the truck off to pretrip after idling all night and the low voltage warning had kicked on by the time I got back in. Extreme cold will suck the life out of a battery fast so it doesn't have the power to start a cold engine.Grijon Thanks this. -
Next morning, rrr rrr rr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. killed batts. Had to wait towo hours for obetz mechs to get in and on duty to jump me. sounded like it wanted to throw a piston until it really caught.Grijon Thanks this. -
I always thought the idling had more to do with the batteries than the gel thing.

I plug my truck in every night, engine heater and oil heater. Never had a problem with my fuel when plugged in.

First time indecades I've heard the block heater saying it's heating circulate fuel n oil.

Lonesome, Rodeoman7 and skyviper73 Thank this. -
Wonder where diesel is now.

How's the choice board look for loads right now?
-
Busy enough to keep me moving on this side of the country. Southeast seems to have slowed down a little bit, been running more up into Ohio and then shooting back down before the weather gets bad. I'm really picky about loads though, I will only haul heavy loads as an absolute last resort, I really do aim for the light stuff.
Are you still headed up to GB this month Sadwar? Find a truck yet?
I made my delivery to Kathleen, GA, and am picking up a load out of the same customer as well headed up to Evansville, IN. The appt time wasn't supposed to be until tomorrow afternoon, but I asked about it while I was checking in for my drop, and they are working on it now, just might take some time. So, just waiting for a bit at the moment, but it sure beats sitting until tomorrow afternoon! Just about everywhere I go, I've found that it just never hurts to ask.
Depending on when they get me out of here I may put a couple more loads on me to get me home for a reset on Monday, which would be perfect timing for some loads that I have my eye on heading out of my home area on Wednesday. We'll see how that all plays out! -
First off no block heater circulates fuel. Some block heaters have fuel filter heat. 95% of block heater equipped trucks today have oil and coolant heaters.
Untreated fuel will gel at -47 F in a running motor.
I have a Espar, pretty cool thing that doesn't make me have to plug my truck in.
As for treating fuel it helps me a bunch at -20. However if you have a new truck DO NOT run Howes diesel treat. Power service white bottle works great and you will see a mpg boost running PS on a regular basis.
