What company would you recommend?

You could try nfi in jersey. I do not remember if they train or not. Then there is Schneider, swift, and the other big companies. TMC wouldn't be too bad if you were interested in flats. But try nfi.

Being as you already have your CDL, many of the larger have what is called a refresher.... like two weeks out with a trainer. Don't really know if you qualify though, just a thought.

 

The truth is that you want to go with any company that will hire you. Your first job is just to get your feet wet so to speak. Being gone for three weeks is the norm starting out. After you have a year in, then you have a much larger choice of companies to work for. Chinatown is the best source on these threads for someone to recommend companies. Once he does give you a list, go to the Good Company thread and find someone who works for that company. Then contact that person and ask him to recommend you to the company. That way he will get a bonus for recruiting you and you will get a company mentor.

Truckers are like a big family. I just want to point out that I was adopted into that family. I am really a railroader.

With a fly by night school, and living in the NYC area. You will be lucky to get a job with anybody. Even the bottom feeders listed above. You might find some Russian who will let you haul a container around for a couple hundred bucks a week.

 

You can also try LTL companies like FedEx Freight, ABF, UPS Freight, Con-Way Freight, etc. They have dock to driver programs where you work the dock and then they will train you to drive. Since you already have your Class A, I would look at these type companies.

Oh please if your a new driver stay far far far away from SWIFT. they have the worlds worst trainers.
so bad SWIFT actually stands for Swing Wide It's a Freaking Trailer.
