I drive a 2012 Cascadia and was wondering which antenna would be best for "getting out". I have a Galaxy 29 and ran my own coax to a Wilson 2000, was only able to get the SWR down to 1:5-1:6 with an external meter. I put a Firestik II and got my SWR down to 1:3, shouldn't the Firestik II give me further distance than the Wilson?
Which set would be best for getting out farther?

If the best you can do is a 3:1 SWR, then there is something wrong with your antenna installation. Most likely the problem is a poor ground at the antenna.
As for performance, the rule of thumb is the bigger the antenna, the bigger the signal. -
Where do you see 3:1? it says 1:3
poppapump1332 Thanks this. -

Even I know that a 3:1 is horrible, oh well.

You ask about a "set" (I assume you mean pair?) but, say you ran "a" coax to a wilson/firestik. <--- the coax is different 50 ohm vs. 75 ohm.
Running your own I'd suggest a single ant. w/ RG8x
The best antenna is the one that can survive your abuse, while making it as long and tall as possible. <--- I'm no ham, but this is what I was taught.
The fiberglass whip is great for top load making it more desirable, however tree limbs will quickly muck it up.
The loaded ant's like wilson2k don't get the "load" as high, but it is good around low clearance's for the abuse it will take.Big_m Thanks this. -
OK, what I am saying is that I ran my own coax in the truck instead of using what came in the truck, running only one antenna on the driver's side. The above mentioned results were from the different antennas on the coax that I installed. Once I had the Wilson tuned it was only about an inch higher than the Firestik II. The Firstik does not hit on anything under normal circumstances (It may hit on a low hanging limb at one of my drops but I usually am able to keep it from hitting the antenna) -
In theory, yes the firestik should get you out further for its top loaded design.

What does is a lack of signals on the channel.
