Floating gears and double clutch are really the same thing......I know.....but when you double clutch you wait tell the RPM's reach a certain point. 1400 to 1700 usually. Then you push the clutch in and pull the gear handle to the neutral position. There you let off the clutch and push it in again. As the RPM's fall to 1200 you put the gear handle into the next higher gear. Floating is done the same way. Just without the clutch.

I'm a floater. I always have since I started driving and my first "car" was a '73 3/4 ton Chevy with 3 on the tree. I did DC when I got my CDL in '05, and had 1 trainer in the past that freaked out when I would float lol. The trucks at the company I'm with now, you almost HAVE to float because the transmission and clutch mechanism is so worn out lol. But, I've been trying to practice DC again so I'm ready for the road test if I end up going back to an OTR company and they require it.
As it stands though, I can float pretty well and 98% of the time you'd think you were in an automatic lol.
