Illinois vs other States on Controlling CDL Mills

    I have been hearing that Illinois does a great job at controlling the CDL Mills so to speak. I am told they require 160 hours minimum of training, and they actually have oversight and check and monitor these schools covertly. I am told other States do not. Some may have hours but no actual oversight manually, or no set hours.

    What have others heard, and how do you think they stack up with others on FMCSA rules and regs. Some drivers coming out of some States, wow stay away from, you hear them talk at the truck stop, and wander how they ever got a CDL.

    It may come to pass that the Govt steps in and holds these Mills to a standard....sort of like aviation

    They might but that would only be because of the scandal with ex-governor George Ryan accepting bribes for cdl licenses.

    We live in Illinois. Went thru a mill last year to get our CDL. No real oversight other than a bribe no longer will get you a CDL.

    My school had guys from other states coming to get their CDL in Illinois because schools are cheaper here. Illinois has A LOT of CDL schools. Price range is $1,200 - $2,000.
