Truck info for NYC.

haven't looked at nyc map, but thanks, local maps r good. I don't depend on any one tool(truck GPS, etc.) or resource for directions. I run "back roads" so u use my atlas to check for low clearances in route, restrictions, etc.
I've been into nyc (and other difficult NE cities) but, not a lot. some drivers have mentioned, "stop do ur research"( local maps, try to verify advice from others), go slow, read signs. I agree, especially with older cities. this has kept me safe. google earth has been helpful for me also. I've use it to check satellite pics of areas (narrow turns, streets, etc.), I've used google earth to view, at street level, read bridge height signs, etc. google satellites maps are not "real time", but there's tool that allows street level views, which you can pan & magnify. I 've found it very useful, but it takes some time, depending on what your need.
older northeastern cities will make ya earn ur pay, cuz I agree with stopping to do ur research before u get there, which means time, patience, etc....
I'm like some, I like tha easier softer way, nonetheless, accomplishment means experience, experience, means safety for all, and my favorite, experience means money. so I go to those hard places, I'd rather not, but we can have accidents anywhere, that's beyond our safety efforts, so safety and awareness everywhere.
I plan ahead if I have any doubts.....oh, if ya got reliable "road dogs", who've "been there done that", call 'em....I've had friends guide me safely, too.......and yes, I verify their advice if possible, too.
I never let anyone pressure me in difficult areas, I'd rather be late, fired, quit, etc. I don't wanna kill anyone, myself, damage equipment or freight, etc.......mistakes don't pay any cash, but we learn from them.......I advise be patient, be careful, come here to reseach and learn from others.........that dot map is, "on point" an excellent example of pragmatism....

 

Atlantic Ave. In Brooklyn passable with a 53 footer? I have a delivery to Wortman Ave Just off atlantic. Thinking I will cross the verrazano and then run up 278 right to atlantic and take that accross.

 

I know you can run a 53 13-6 out Atlantic off of the BQE (278), to at least to Pennsylvania Ave. Any turn off of Atlantic will be tight with traffic.

Actually it wasn't to bad. Did the run this past Monday so I had to deal with the weather which was pretty gnarly, but it made traffic fairly light. I was coming from the west so I just took 278 and crossed the verrazano. Stayed on 278 till atlantic ave and just followed that to Pennsylvania ave. Worst part was to get in their dock it was a blindside back off a one way street with cars parked on both sides plus about 8 in of snow. Oh and I had to go through their gate to. Did that drop, then had another one over in the harbor their in Brooklyn. Because of the weather it took me 8 hrs to get to the city when it should have taken 3, so I ended up staying at the service plaza on 95, then picked up my load in Queens the following morning. Wasn't bad but I hope I never go back.

 

In other words make them come to New Jersey and get it themselves.

 

Ok I gotta ask--the service plaza on 95???please enlighten me?

 

Probably talking about the Vince Lombardi in Ridgefield, NJ, or maybe one of the plaza's further up the NE TPKE towards CT. Lombardi is closer to NYC, but to get back to NYC across the Hudson you have to pay a toll.
