cost of DEF

The truck would only go 5mph w/o the DEF so it was towed plus they recommended having the computer reset.

 

So these boastful new truck guys and their high mpg figures they tout, must be tempered by the cost of of DEF. They don't brag about that. Go figure.

 

So this thread got me thinking so I kept track from the last time I put def in till now. So here are the numbers. I drove 1424 miles I put 10.67 gals in the tank so call it half a tank. It cost me a total of 29.87 to fill the tank.

 

my truck (2013 freightliner) averages about 300 miles per gallon on def. boss says he is paying 1.55 in bulk. our trucks have extra big tanks and can easily go a whole week without refilling.

 

1000 miles per green light. 4 green lights equals 4000 miles. tank holds 20 gallons.

i've gone 2000 miles on 10 gallons. but the truck has a heater. so no idling

 

I gotta ask the big dummy question, I was hoping somebody else would but I guess I'll have to be the big dummy, what would happen if when a driver needed to relieve himself he just kept peeing in the DEF tank? I don't intend on trying it, but I guess I have too much time on my hands and think of idiotic things like this.

Any contaminates and it will throw codes/derate/shutdown.

Hey, there might be a protective mechanism that makes it like peeing on an electrified fence... Or maybe Mr. Gore reaches his arm out of the tank and grabs you by your package...

 

Don't just pee in your def tank.
