Sitting here in Kathleen, GA. Dropped my loaded trailer just waiting on my load to Richmond to be finished. 17% done about an hour ago, so by the time its done I'll probably be close to out of hours. I haven't decided if I want to take 10 hours and then drive through the night and get it to Richmond and therefore get me home earlier, or if I'll just leave in the morning. Since I won't be able to get any real sleep its probably not a safe idea for me to try to break in the middle of the day and then leave about 2am, so I'll just head out tomorrow morning I think. We'll see.
Anxious to get home!! Should be home around Thursday and then be off through Sunday, leaving out Monday. Gonna try again to get that one last tube off for the pressure sensor on the manifold. I borrowed some PB Blaster from the Charlotte shop and soaked the hell out of it, so maybe that will help. Other than that I probably won't mess with the truck too much this time at home, just wanna enjoy a little break from it LOL. -
I ended up over my HOS tonight. Got a late start this morning because I've been feeling like cap for a few days. Truckstops and rest areas should have vacancy signs like those cheap motels. Looked for a spot to park for almost 2 hours then said screw it and finished my trip to the West Memphis OC. I'm done running late on weekdays unless it's overnight. Sorry.

If u have a smartphone the TA app is nice. It'll show u how many spots are they have and roughly how many are available including the reserved ones. If you don't shut down by 6pm it's getting harder and harder to find parking.

Whenever I had a rough start to the day like yours and I was running in an area that I didn't know, or just an area that I knew would be impossible to park (like the NE), I don't care what time I started my day, I'd shut down early enough to park. No one ever said a word, if I was going to be late for the delivery or PU I'd just send a message explaining why and that was that.
Your DBL will probably want to talk with you about why you ran over by 2 hours, just be honest and say something along the lines of "I couldn't find a SAFE and LEGAL place to park", those 2 words in caps being the important words you want to include in your reason, lol. -

look into this , I bought my copy at the Gary OC 30.00 I think but well worth it. List places that allow trucks, Phone numbers of some that may(walmarts) and the number of possible spots(very helpful in judging the possiblity of open spots) at a location. Also has close by food listed as well.
The other one these guys are suggesting is "Next Exit" book. That one has TS's for parking purposes only but gives an accounting of amenities available at a place. Lounge, tv, showers etc.... And lists what each exit has otherwise http://www.thenextexit.com/. $15 or so at most TS.
then there a little pocket guide for $4-5 usually found with the office supplies(log books etc). this one will lists the off interstate places on US and State routes too. Lists it by state and has interstates listed by exit# size of lot, then one listing for the US/ST routes. Comes in handy as a reference. http://www.truckandtravel.com/about_us.htmlLast edited: Feb 5, 2014
