I am a beginner at this but I am slowly figuring it out.
I live in Northern CA a run Team Flatbed.
The rates are absolutely horrible to say the least.
I am not desperate to move because I have everything paid off, But the rates these drivers are hauling for like 1.30 is sad.
I know its about lanes and figuring out supply and demand, but I'm stuck.
If it was my choice i would not even think of coming to CA but I live here.
I know where i want to go to IE: GA, AL, TN, or Chicaco, Pa, OH, KY, but the rates to get there is simply horrific from CA.
Any suggestions on what citys/states to drop and pick up loads to get me to these good paying loads.

in general, freight rates of $1.30/mile are not all that bad. Not great, but not the bottom of the barrel. Come out of Florida most days for 0.85/mile. Beer and produce out of Cali usually pay a little more, but not by much. Produce and floral are the big moneymakers, but they are seasonal and for reefer. Your Cali government is killing the FB freight out there with big regs on oil drilling and now construction. Government construction is down and will go down further now that Obama declared a $10.10/hr minimum wage on contract work. Texas, however, is BOOMING with flatbed work, as is OK, ND and the midwest in general.
