That's a business model that earns billions for mega carriers. Do you mean their owners are idiots? And you are the smart guy because you wore out a couple of trucks and still trucking? You are leaving money on the table , that's ok for one man operation, not if you hire a driver or want to grow

Bottom line, revenue per mile on all miles....

Thinking that hauling for less out of a weak area is bad business, is to not understand business...

Do I ever haul out for less than going in?

    All depends...

How much going in, how much coming out, how far to better rates....

    All factors to consider.

The biggest complainers about brokers and rates, it just always seems like.... It's one thing to argue "reload in Florida and go back north for $1 a mile" versus "deadhead to GA and leave the FL stuff alone" it's another thing altogether to say brokers owe anyone something. Drivers owe it to themselves to figure out a system and find their own way. Notice that guys who say drive out of Florida for a buck a mile and ones saying deadhead to GA are not talking about being suckered into driving to Florida for cheap $2 rates. Everybody and there brother knows FL is like that and some times of year worse than others. Diversify and put vents on your van then maybe you can haul melons or taters out (at times) for a rate. If no one will pay $3-4 or better to go there, just say no. No-one owes you anything. These discussions get old.

Trying to help out a situation where the brokers are taking full advantage of inexperienced truckers and also where there are some guys that will haul a load for so cheap that they would profit more if they just deadheaded. I guess that I am beating a dead horse here and since everyone is satisfied with the current broker rates then just have at it and haul away. Good luck to everyone & have a nice day!!
