No. I'm at System Transport, and to be honest I'm just being paranoid. I don't know if they really do that. I just think most of the major carriers do it. I think sometimes that the DAC was invented in order to force drivers to stay at their jobs.

As for keeping my job, I remember my first driver manager had been a driver before, and he bragged of only having had two load shifts during his career. That's why I'm pretty sure they won't fire me. But my only goal to work here was to build a resume, and if I'm going to lose that then I have nothing more to gain by staying.

    edit: less self pity

So, reading about this issue more, I just discovered that DAC doesn't actually happen until you leave the job. However it will happen before you finish orientation at your next job.

Also you can contest the charge within 30 days, and write a rebuttal.

    Snipped this from HireRight's site.

    What Is A DAC Report?
Most often, when someone uses the term “DAC Report” they mean the employment history information submitted by former employers to HireRight & USIS Commercial Services Inc. (formerly called DAC Services, or “Drive-A-Check”). Among other things, a truck driver’s DAC Report contains the driver’s identification (Name, DOB, SSN), the name and address of the contributing trucking company, the driver’s dates of employment with that company, the driver’s reason for leaving that company, whether the driver is eligible for rehire, and comments about the driver’s work record (e.g. good, satisfactory, too many late deliveries, etc.). It will also indicate whether the company stored drug and alcohol testing information with USIS. A separate section of the DAC report contains incident/accident information.

8-j Do what you can to keep your job. You made a mistake that a more experienced driver might not of. Now you are that more experienced driver. I would say find some other drivers and talk to them and send pics to each other about load securement. If you talk to other drivers that pull those loads and imitate them you have better chances of succeeding. You did good. Nothing came off on the road and the product was accepted by the consignee. You did not have an accident or an incident so nothing will be reported that way. They company may find a way to report the cost but it would be a he said she said deal because their is not a government required report involved. The harder part is to keep a good attitude through the endless &&&& that the company will give you. It does make a difference how much experience you have when you change jobs you are the new guy and have to go through the stuff. Keep breathing hang in there and in a year or two you will have a funny story to tell.

    Thanks for the encouragement Zenaddler.

For an update on the situation, they didn't throw away the damaged bundles. They loaded one on my trailer and had me take it on to another distribution center. Just noted it had been damaged on the packing slip. Hopefully that means my company didn't have to buy them, at least not the entire bundle.

Second update. I finally got my disciplinary action. "Occurrence Type: Cargo Claim. Occurrence Description: "Load Shift"

I'm guess that's what will go on my DAC.

The penalty was having to watch an online interactive training video. I even learned a couple of things I hadn't previously known.

This is a perfect examplen of why drivers should have an EMERGENCY monthly reserve for hours over 11, 14, and 70 ( say....15?). The theory is in an emergency reserve situation you are only allowed to be departing a shipper or receiver and headed either to your residence or safe haven, or when you have had an emergency situation your hours can be extended so you can get to your planned safe haven. It would eliminate the safety-sacrificing rushing some guys do to hurry to and get back out on the road and ensure drivers arent left stranded on the off ramps! Thank God you made it and got parked driver!

Better start looking elsewhere as they'll eventually starve you out.
