OK....So, I and my trainer together drive 3,200 miles a week. I get paid $400.....I can legally drive 11 hrs a day correct? Average day run is approximately 600 miles a day per driver, right? 11 hr per day x's 5 days = 55 hrs (or scenario of running my full 70) / (divided by) $400. a week pay = out to about $7.27 hr??????
Someone please tell me that these figures can't be right. You mean I choose a career to make less wages than Micky D's and always gone??? WTF was I thinking..LMAO.....![]()
Is My Math Correct or Am I Missing Something???

Looks like you are a quick learner and have realized that most drivers work for less than minimum wage. Now you only can hope that you actually see the 3000mls. per week that they advertise. Lots of guys struggle to see half of those miles. Good luck to you. Remember trucking is a life style not a job. If you look at it as a job you chose the wrong career.
Obviously, that is my opinion and I am a trained monkey.Swamprat55, Offender, Macneil and 6 others Thank this. -
Those figures are right if you have no endorsements and work for a mega refrigerated carrier as a new driver. If you have the tanker/hazmat endorsements, you get milage pay plus many assessorial pays which means $55K - $65K as a solo driver with a tanker/hazmat company.

I wish you the best of luck!mje, Swamprat55, blairandgretchen and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes your math is wrong. You should also calculate the 10 hours off you must take, before you can run again. It brings it down even lower. I was only paid 300 in training, and that was 15 or 16 years ago. You are doing pretty good kiddo. lol
Swamprat55, blairandgretchen, TAC12 and 2 others Thank this. -
As a new driver, yes thats the payscale. You have to get your first year in before you can go elsewhere and start seeing a decent payday. even then your calculated hourly pay is about the same . Not trying to run you down, but why didnt you do this research before hand? As a team you should at least be doing 5-6k a week easy.

NOPE.......I haven't made the move just yet...I was reading a comment on here in reference to someone making "the big bucks" running with one of the "Big 10" so I referenced their web site and it showed newbie pay. My training school doesn't endorse any particular company due to the fact that they sat on one of those "Big 10's" property....
I have l@@ked at a 100 or so different companies and they all pretty much look the same. Finding a diamond in the rough, I'm sure is out there but the search is incredibly overwhelming..I have spoke with one company that offered newbie pay at .32 plus drop/stop pay of $20 per. 3-4 stops per load. 10 day orientation to solo...I am however semi concerned about coming straight out of CDL school going to orientation for 10 days and then on my own...What do you guys think of a down shift on a 6 degree down grade? It is part of the road test......mje, Swamprat55, blairandgretchen and 1 other person Thank this. -
I cringe at all of the posters and even articles on the internet that state that is the beginner earner wage as if it is factual for all trucking companies. My first and current company as a new driver I was making $900 - $1600 per week. Unlike most people who have $0 dollars in their bank account and just accepted any truck company that would pay for their schooling, I took my time and went to a college to learn how to drive. I paid cash for it and went to the best company of my choosing. All of the big major names, Swift, Prime, Schneider, JB Hunt pay those crap wages to idiots who fall for it. Do research and find a quality company. You can get this information from drivers who actually drive for the company. Talk to them in person as online they just spew out the negatives and log off.

mje and Swamprat55 Thank this.

You done research, look into local / Specialty work, it is double / nearly triple with 1/2 the miles
Clarify- Company drivermje, blairandgretchen, justa_driver and 1 other person Thank this.
