It is my understanding that the truck payment depends on how many miles you run for the week. Run more miles, the higher the truck payment and the less miles the lower the truck payment. Did it not work that way with you?

Yes that's how it is.....23 cents per mile... Plus $120 interest per week...and they act like they don't want u going home even though they advertise great home time, if u don't get 3500 miles you will not bring home $1000

I'm not a huge fan of KLLM, but things are getting better. My miles have not been great for the past two weeks, but that is just trucking. The biggest issue I had was getting loads sent to me past their appt time. That has not happened in almost a month.

I PROMISE anyone who reads this that if for some miraculous reason you can get 3800 miles in a week, at KLLM you will easily, and I mean, EASILY take home over $2000 for that week. The only thing that could change that is if you buy fuel on Wednesday before the cutoff and put 150 gallons in your tank. If you end the week without needing to buy fuel for your current or next load, two grand is guaranteed. A 2800 mile week will get you $1400. Once again, how much fuel you have in your tank can easily change that.

The problem is that the only way to get 3800 miles in a week is to start a load on the previous week. I would say that 2200 to 2500 miles is a normal week. That's pretty easy to do as long as you get loads that don't bring you to a dead stop. Waiting for a meat load will kill you. Also, it will affect your miles if you have a load that has two stops that are close to each other but it has to be delivered on two days.

A perfect example is the load I just had. I arrived in Dodge City on Friday morning. It was supposed to be ready on Saturday by 2300, but when I got there it said it was ready. That was a mistake. It was ready, but then they had to offload it to another trailer. I ended up leaving Sunday morning and going to Temple. I made the delivery on Monday, and then had to wait until Tuesday to make the second stop which was near Tyler. It was only about 780 miles for 4 days. It's not always like that, so I'm not complaining. I'm just giving an example of how you can have slow weeks.

Personally, I've never believed it to be very "smart" to lease a truck from any company controlling your income stream. Too many unexpected things can happen a long the way. INMHO, if a person really has a burning desire to be an O/O then save your cash, protect your credit and lease or purchase a new tractor from a reputable dealer. Then sign on with a company, if things don't work out take YOUR TRUCK and move on. Just my .02 cents.

Companies that thrive off of passing the costs onto the drivers by cleverly tricking them into paying for the fuel and maintanence are already a step ahead of that idea. They offer many incentives to lease their trucks making it pretty much impossible to bring your own tractor. People with sub-par credit are really in "luck" with these deals. In other words someone with a solid business plan and good credit going to a company like KLLM is about like someone with an engineering degree bagging groceries at Safeway.

    Swamprat55 and Dinomite Thank this.

I see your point Dna Mach, but other than locking yourself into an impossible situation what's the alternative? Stay working as a company driver, or going through a broker?

How are they on company drivers? I hear they really push leasing. Do they take loads from company drivers and give them to owner ops?

They don't take loads from company drivers...they offer them to lease drivers first ... Company drivers are forced dispatched ...lease is not...I could never be a company driver for any company...I tried it with Milan Express and I won't try it again
