Well, an old adage comes to mind here. If you're doing what you like, you won't work a day in your life.

Pay is a worthy consideration. But if it was the only consideration everybody would be wanting to be tanker yankers. You have to remember that different folks have different interests. It sounds like you just don't know what yours are yet. I personally like hauling heavy equipment.

As a ex tanker yanker I never recommend any driver move to tankers with less than 3 to 5 years on the road running at least 100,000 miles a year, especially non baffeled(food grade) its a whole diffrent world and takes more driving skill than a load that doesn't move, most tank invoked wrecks I know of have a driver with less than 3 years experience, I know a lot of seasoned drivers that tried and couldn't handle pulling a tank, just my .02

I've been with Linde about 3 months now pulling cryo. I love it, great pay, great dispatch, you have your trip is waiting on you when you get to work. Home everyday, and work a 5 day work week. Now, I do have around 6 years exp. driving coast to coast in van, reefer, and flatbed. My driving record perfect, and no tickets. There are no "washouts" in cryo, and no appointment times, you unload when you get there. The down side, it is mostly 12 hr days, and top speed is 65. My best advise to any new driver, get a year two exp. and move on. Keep your record clean, then don't drive for a "Trucking Company"! Drive for a company that has their own trucks! Good Luck, and Be Safe!

I would recommend starting with a training company that either does tanker, or flat... You can always switch to a van or reefer once you have experience... I wish I would have don't that versus starting out in a van...
