What I pay isn't really all that bad. I just quoted to add my wife and one truck. Granted no experience but it would take my rate from $14,582 to $33,503 per year. $18921 for just her and a truck and trailer.

You sir are the reason we have cheap freight....I can clear $600 on one load if it takes you all week than your part of the reason trucking is what it is!

If you want to insult, that's fine. Don't try to help the situation by telling me what I can do improve myself and the industry. So I will reply to your remark with, "You'll have that.:biggrin_25525:"

Something to remember in all this fussing, your location has a lot to do with a quote. Some states are much higher to get coverage in,also where you live in that state can make a huge difference. Your usual cargo can make it higher / lower,as does your credit rating. A good driving record is not the only key to a low insurance rate, but it sure helps.

We are paying 11k a year for 1mill liability 100k cargo and comp. 15 year owner operator no tickets clean record with a 29 year old clean record 6 months experience. 2003 kenworth and 2012 Wabash. I have 3 years experience otr and 2 years local. I was rejected by insurance company because I am not 25 yet. Luckily for me I will be booking loads for the two mentioned earlier. And yes, I already know how to say no to cheap freight, worked with brokers while leased to company. Not sure if it's my age or tone of voice but 95% of the time I got the rate I wanted. :)

I was going to lease on to Evans Trucking and that was why I ended up spending what I did. Once I have the 2 years down, it will drop

I have three years over the road experience. Why should age matter? I drive to California and back on a weekly basis for those three years. I took off for Christmas new years thanksgiving and a few birthdays. Other than that it was back and forth back and forth.. I know how to drive

    Steeleandsonfarms Thanks this.

Actually, it would. Cheap freight is a matter of perspective. I could have 4500 a month truck payments and make my net 600. Doing exactly the same thing I am now, with your rates, I no longer make 600 a week, I would make $780 a week. So, things like that make ALL the difference!!!
