    You're right, it doesn't...

395.15b(2) The device shall provide a means whereby authorized Federal, State, or local officials can immediately check the status of a driver's hours of service. This information may be used in conjunction with handwritten or printed records of duty status, for the previous 7 days.

That's the closest it comes to spelling out how this is to be done. However, your contention is (to paraphrase) that a "modern" means should be used to accomplish this, not something as old-fashioned as say a "fax."

I will retort that we are talking about the gubberment here. Considering their ability to even begin to manipulate a Qualcomm terminal to begin the most rudimentary inspection of an electronic means of recording a RODS, that we are probably stretching the concept of reality beyond credibility that they can even operate a fax machine let alone anything more modern than that obsolescent technology.

Yep, FMCSA is ready for everyone to join in on the electronic fun. I called Landstar a couple of days ago asking some questions
and they asked me if I had a problem with electronic logs. Been using um for two years, no issues. Mine is the Blue 2 Peoplenet.
Trying to decide between them and Mercer myself.

So your saying you unable to print the log out at the end of the day, didn't say you were required to asking if you are able to. I do know that if mine broke I wouldn't have rolled over the scales without something. Same as if mine blew out the window while driving, I would get it straight before crossing any scales or driving any further for that matter.......

With peoplenet, if the unit completely dies and I have to revert to paper logs, I can still log into the peoplenet website
with my laptop 24/7 and show the officer any log he would like to see for the last six months. Qualcom have something
    similar I wonder.......just saying

With ELDs (elogs, EOBRs) you're not required to "print out" a hard copy of the days logs at the end of your day. That's only required in the case of using a program where the driver enters all the log data, and there is no automatic control over drive-line hours. DDL is a good example of this sort of program.

True statement, I'm not required to print out my elogs every day. I print them when I go in for home time to have
them as back up with my per diem print out each month for tax purposes. CPA loves it, nothing to raise the IRSs
    eye brows.

While not required you may still want to. If you take per diem deduction for meals you need to have some kind of record of how many days/nights you were on the road.
