Food Lion D/C Disputana Va

I been in and out of there a bunch,no problems
I go in as erly as they open the gates and let trucks in.I check in asap
I get a door and when they finish unloading me I hit the dock and watch the receiver do my load and when he hits the receiving office I am in line.
many times I been in and out in 1 hour.
I usually haul 18/19 pallets of water.I also have my com check ready when I check in for the lumpers.
It just a matter of learning their system

 

They're not the fastest, but they're not the slowest either. About par for the course, for DelHaize warehouses. C&S is still worse, but at least they let me unload with their power jack. It seems every time I pay a lumper there are OS&D issues, but when I unload, there are no problems. Coincidence? I doubt it.

 

Had a delivery appointment of 8pm last night but missed due to extremely heavy traffic through DC. Was told to check in this morning and found out they don't start receiving grocery until 4pm.

Sucks because I has a pickup to go home scheduled for today in Suffolk. I told my dispatch trying to deliver on the same day as the pickup when going through DC was a bad idea. But what do i know, I'm just a driver.

So camped out at the Wilco-Hess up the road until 4.

My brother lives in Richmond so he came up to the TA where I was last night for breakfast this morning. I asked if he knew the origin of the name and he said he'd look into it. He texted me this:

Apparently Disputanta is an amusing exception to Virginia place name rules. "When the people here finally managed to get a post office authorized, they could not agree on a name. After endless arguments and disputes, a postal inspector named it Disputanta."

 

They didn't get a post office until the 1990's. Besides that they have that white church and an antique store across the highway is all I can think of. You turn at that white church to get to my brother's house.

The name is amusing. That railroad beside US 460 was Norfolk and Peterson or something like that back in the 1800's. The locomotives would stop there to fill up on water for their steam engines. The owner and his wife who built the railway started naming towns when they left Norfolk traveling west. The little towns east of there the wife named from a book she was reading. By the time they got to Disputanta they run out of names. Like you said an argument erupted, but between the husband and wife hence the name. I thought it was an Indian name like many VA towns until my brother told me the story.

 

Checked in at the guard shack at 3:45pm. Was unloaded and kicked to the curb by 7pm. About the same as Dollar General, Family Dollar, etc.
