Audible air leak - frequent air discharge

This issue is related to a 99 Kenworth W900L - Detroit Diesel.

Forgive me if I use improper terms here. I have searched the forum before posting and am not seeing anything related to this specific problem. Here are the symptoms:

1. Air is leaking pretty good. clearly audible.
2. air spits off about every 2 minutes until truck has been running awhile then will spit off about every 5-7 min.
3. occasionally, from the passenger side, you can hear a constant sputter sound that will subside if you dump a little bit of air out.

Someone mentioned air dryer at one point. Also, have had problems with the air governor freezing up in the frigid temps a few times over the last couple of winters. He would take it off and bring in to the heat, thaw out and everything would be fine. Not sure if this new problem has any relevance to that. Any thoughts?

Mistake.. it was the dump valve that was freezing up. not the governor.

 

For what it's worth, it turned out to be the air dryer. The one that was on the truck was the original on the '99 KW and has never been replaced! The guy at western star said that he recommends changing them out every two years! Whoops.
