Great. Oil pan threads came out with the plug.

Fumoto valves are great. You'll never have to worry about someone puttiing an impact on your oil drain plug again. They're 30-40 bucks each, but well worth it.

My issue is on one of my little tractors (John Deere 4100). I should have put a femco http://www.nospillsystems.com/ on it but for some reason (that I can't explain) I only have them on my trucks.

I have one of those Fumoto valves that was on one of my trucks when I bought it. I changed it to a femco because my trucks work in the bush and I feared that a stick might hit the valve and open it. For highway they should be safe enough, or maybe I'm just paranoid. A nice feature about the femco is that all my trucks have the drain on the side of the pan and the femco can be had with the hose at a 45 degree angle so it drains straight down into the tray.

I guess it's possible to have it knocked open, but you do have to push it an then turn it, so it's not easy to knock open since they do lock closed. You're probably safer with what you have though. We've been using the Fumoto's for years over the road without problems, car hauler are low, but no off roading :)

Napa or most local part stores won't have anything big enough to work. At least in my area they have no idea where to get parts for big machinery and trucks. See what cat suggests or Try a machine shop for helicoil kit that was mentioned before. I used them on 2 of my trucks and the threads are stronger than new. Over tightening is an issue but sometimes lots of miles on aluminum threads with 100 or more services will definitely pull them out

Ended up doing a drill and tap to 1 11.5 NPT and put a steel bushing with a plug in the center. Will work until the next oil change. Will switch over to a FEMCO then. Thanks to all for your help.

I have seen 2 of those valves get hit and damaged, niether engine was damaged, one the driver saw, the other was an "E" and the low oil light came on.
Look at the oil pan plug and if the paint is worn off somthing hit it, Cat paint is hard to damage.
The plugs are damaged because some places use an impact to install them.
I have seen pans repaired by welding in an aluminum plug inside and out, and then drilling and tapping for a 3/4 NPT plug. Cummins also makes a repair that works, That is my choise. it can be done on the truck.
    Just a thought!

When you use a torque wrench 50 foot pounds is not very much. I'm sure some people pull close to 100 foot pounds when they tighten them.

The Cummins repair is what I went with. Actually Cat sent me to KW for it.
