Have to fight for those batteries.

    Challenge them to ellismania.

Or make friends with the mechanic by your house like I did.

    ..... still in shop....

    Lolz

Funny how it gets backed up when I go.

    Rats.

Give me constant unpaid local runs will ya....

Hi there, just excited re a future in trucking. Taking care of 85 yrs young dad so want to stay local (starting w a local private school soon here in Western Maine). Does Conway do much in Maine? Do they hire newbies? Or must I have experience?

Yeah, it took me a couple dealerships & a handful of road service calls before getting new batteries approved. I mean I'd get jumped, drive an hour to the dealer and arrive with freshly charged batteries so it would start right up. The lazy part changers have probably never seen a hydrometer, so they'd just send me on my way. Eventually I went to a dealer & left everything on inside so when the mechanic finally got around to "testing" it the truck wouldn't start itself.

I don't know why Conway is so thrifty with batteries -- I idled pretty much 24/7 for the two months prior at $30/night in diesel & still had at least 3 road service calls for jumps when forced to shut the truck off at customers -- all of which could have been avoided if they'd replaced them when I first went in for slow cranking...

You'll have to check with your local conway freight yard. They're on the LTL side and hiring is handled at each terminal. Most of us here are in the over the road division -- conway truckload.

i believe most Conway Freight yard (of decent size ) have a dock to CDL training program in house
so you don't need to go to a school ... Seems like if your on the younger side of age they seem to like you young ,fit , & ready to bust ### lol

look on the Conway web site for job openings

You need 6 months experience before going to Conway.

Just starting out, there's a comfort level (and therefore safety) that you get by staying with the company that trained you, plus you can always call your trainer and ask questions that first year. In my opinion it really does take a years experience before you really even approach becoming a real driver.

I'd recommend staying 1 year with another company, then moving over. That way you're better assured success.

Thanks so much. That makes so much sense! But what about the fact I've heard that a co-sponsrd school trains me specifically to their specifications, whereas a private school or a CDL tech school course would provide training across a (seemingly, or so I hear) wider range of driving skills to produce a broader base of new-driver approach, making it easier to go work for ANY company rather than just the one that trained me.
