Central Refrigerated Truck Stop III

I was just offered a job driving local for Ryder. M-F Home every night (overnight 1 or 2 times a month) $16/hr +OT. 45-50hrs a week. Sounds good to me, but have any of you heard anything about ryder?

I would specifically ask them how slow things get in January and February and even longer. I came off the road for a local gig, with the promise of uber overtime, which was sweet in Oct Nov. Then December hit and I was lucky to get 45 hours compared to the 60 a week before.

Kept saying it's gonna get better. Never did. According to a previous driver for them they only did big time business six months out if the year, other than that you were stuck with forty hours or so.

Are you just not liking the office gig? Maybe you should come to jct! Lol I've been to cali three times in the last three weeks. You live out here don't ya?!

I'm back on the road after some well deserved time off, if I do say so myself. I'm trying to get back to WVC to pick up another student. I will say that the money in the last two weeks of having a student could get very addictive. But, I think that's an addiction I can live with.

I'm thinking about working a 2-3 month schedule. Train 2 students then go for some R&R. I might even start using WVC as my home terminal and fly back and forth to/from home while they work on my truck. I need to see what kind of ticket prices I can get to/from St. Louis. Fortunately, it seems like I drive by the house every couple of weeks while training.

 

So, Auto Socks are also approved in California and Washington as well as Colorado. But, doesn't Oregon and Wyoming also regularly require chains too? I'm not sure about Idaho, but I think the rest of the states do not require chains. I'm asking because I'd love to not have to carry chains at all anymore.

 

Why you worrying about socks rookie?! lol, j/k. Popping my head in to say hi! I'm on TTR to say Hi! I'm on TTR researching local driving companies. Apparently, $13/hr as a laborer for an HVAC company is giving my girl fits!! Things are good. I'm drinking a bottle of wine and enjoying this "weekend" thing I had forgotten even existed. Hope everybody is staying safe and ready for those big miles as the weather starts to cooperate!!

 

Man you're not the only dude here that does a little research before making an investment. They are 100% legal in the lower 48 on any car or truck of 5 axles or less. I was inspected in WA on one of my last crs loads right at snoqualmie summit station and was told they were legal and that they wished more folks would use them since they didn't leave broken links all over the hwy waiting to puncture a tire. You're good to buy them. The size AL79 fits all centrals dual tire setups and I don't think they are made for wide based tires yet. I got both sets of mine on ebay from a dealer in slc for $180.00. They normally sell for that per set. Not trying to be an ##### but trust me I checked them out to before making the purchase.

 

I guess Central is just behind the times (not suprising). I spoke to the head safety guy about them only a couple of months ago and he was certain that they were not legal in every state and therefore Central policy was to carry chains. Also, concerning your use of them, I don't make assumptions, therefore your use does not equate to universal acceptance and no one at any time I can remember said that this was the case despite the fact that I had floated the question before. So, can you see how your clarity on the matter does not translate into mine without more direct communication? I'm sorry that you were offended at the question.

 

It is mostally the office politics and constant finger pointing. And the company got bought by an investment firm and they are making a lot of changes that make working here not so much fun.

I am also getting sick of getting yelled at by all the drivers, because freight is slow, or not getting home when freight is good.

I think I do better with here is your load...Go. Rather than I have 5 loads to cover, Driver A will yell at me because it is not preloaded, Driver B will yell at me because it's not goint to UT, Driver C will yell at me because it required driving at night...

I just don't get it sometimes. I would never yell at my boss (Fleet managers here are considered the drivers boss) and if I did I would get fired.

No I don't live in Cali I just drove there a lot because I was on Kraft dedicated. I live near Yakima, WA.

 

PSUMoose, that reminds me of something I overheard at WVC by one of the DMs:

"I didn't realize what a Jewel I was back when I was a driver."

Now that you are on the other side of the phone, you can see how rare it is to have drivers who simply take the load from point A to point B with a minimum of drama.
