I'm supposed to graduate from school at the end of Feb. and i'm really looking at CT trans. pretty hard. What kind of training program do they have? How long do i have to ride with a driver before i get my own truck? Do they have a rider/passenger program?

Well honestly they are a great company to start with, I drove before I came to them, most drivers get there experience here then move on to another company. Training program is OK, not the best. From my understanding they have changed a few things since I started. Im now here they have a two week orientation. One week is classroom the other is with load sucurement (due to the rollovers they been having) then you spend two weeks with a trainer maybe more if you need a little more training driving, then you get your own truck, you will go home every weekend with your trainer, (so no pressure with having to be stuck in a truck the whole time). They do have a rider program anyone can ride in the truck as long as you let them know and sign some insurance paper work I believe, but they do have a no pet policy. But if you have a dog or whatever just don't let another Ct driver know, cause some do run back and tell on people. If I can give any advice to anyone is.... Slow down in curves. That's the biggest cause for rollovers. Those split axle trailers we have are not forgiving when taking curves to fast. But if you come out here I believe any driver would like it just starting out.

I'm one of the trainers here at ct. We have a two week orientation first week is in class going over logs, safety procedures recaps, physical test. The second week is load securement drive local with different loads on trailer. Then you will go out with an otr trainer for minimum of two weeks. Then you have a final road test if you pass you get a truck assigned to you. Rider program started after 90 days of employment providing no tickets or accidents. No pets what so ever if your caught with pet in truck could be terminated from employment. Nobody wants to get in a truck behind someone carrying a pet if they have an accident in truck it smells terrible.

Thanks, since you yourself are a trainer i have a few more questions. I live in Ga. but am much closer to the jax,Fl. terminal than Savannah(30min vs 2hr ride) so would i be able to receive my training and be based in Jax? Also, when you say go home with a trainer, you mean actually go to their house and stay for the w/e? Do riders have to be 18+? What kind of trucks do they have, the web site says macks but someone said they Internationals too? autos? again, thanks!

You would still have to do the first two in savannah ga then you would be put with a trainer that is close to your area.No you won't go to the trainers house unless that's where he has you meet him at. Being that close to jax fl that will be your home terminal. If I'm not mistaken the age is 10+ as long as they are blood related if not its 18+ also has to be cleared by terminal manager and a wavier signed by you and rider. Still have macks mostly internationals now. Macks are 2011 or newer internationals are 2014, all are automatic. Let me know if any more ?. Hope to see you on the road.

We had a recruiter come by class the other day and gave us a rundown of the company. One thing i want to ask is she mentioned about per diem pay. What are your thoughts about this option?

I would recommend it unless you plan on spending around $60 at a truckstop every night your on the road to clam on taxes it saves you the hastle of keeping all the receipts. Hope this answers your question. If any more ? Just ask.
