Handle most 10 speeds pretty well....but not this 2008 Freightliner; Why is this?

    Newer Fullers don't have a U pattern anymore...it's an X gate shifter.

    I had same problem when I road tested for Walmart. Progressive shift turned on ......... double clutch the lower gears driver, and keep the rpms tight. Shift between 12 and 1400. Let every gear move you just a little bit faster. Don' try to man handle it, won't work, be very gentle and feather the throttle every gear.

    ( I could not get that #### binder off the yard, felt like such a rookie!!!! ) Instructor told me how to handle truck...had a nice ride and passed road test no problem .

    Trucks and heavy equipment are like women. They're all different, and they all have their own quirks and gripes.:lol:

    That's what I do with my '04 Mack Vision, but in the lower gears I can upshift a little sooner. Must be that "progressive shifting" thing, but the truck seems to like it.

    Different engines drop rpm at different rates. Go from Cummins to a CAT and you'll tend to shift too fast, etc.

    To the OP, I drove yesterday and today a WS with a ISX and 13 spd. I could not shift worth a darn in it when I got it. I missed a lot of shifts until I realized that I was trying to shift at a low RPM and not where the engine wanted me to shift - I know this sounds odd but .... I brought the engine in the lower range right up to 1800 and once I got into the higher range, I did progressive shifting up to the top gear. Today I mostly floated the gears in it and had little problems.

    See it is odd that the sister truck I had last week didn't give me this issue at all, they were purchased as an identical pair and have exactly the same options. While they are both ISX engines, one is difficult and the other is a sweetie.

    The Jakes in my Pete don't come on when shifting either only come on after touching the brakes. So no need to shut them off to shift.

    Do you have a Meritor transmission? If so, that might be the problem. VERY unforgiving with rpm / road speed match.
