2007 Peterbilt 386 with autoshift (has clutch) Moving at speeds under 30mph it would shift into neutral while flashing the "F". Nothing to do but coast to a stop, shut down the engine and wait about 20 minutes. I would then hear a click under the floorboards, start the engine and it would be fine. Might happen again in 1/2 mile or might go 500 miles before it happened again. In one instance, it made about 50 feet.
1st mechanic: Low battery voltage then said short in tranny wiring. Replaced batteries and wiring harness to tranny.
2nd mechanic: sure there was a short, but couldn't locate it. Cleaned all connections on ECM coated with dielectric grease and hooked back up.
3rd mechanic said short in the XY shifter. Replaced entire shifter unit on top of tranny. Called Peterbilt to help locate short but was told you could only buy the unit complete.
4th mechanic (after a total shut down-engine died and wouldn't start). Found the engine wiring harness across the back of the engine (bundle of about 30 wires) was smashed and wires shorted out. Replaced engine wiring harness and ECM which was fried. Now over 40K miles since last occurance and running fine with just a little over $4000 invested.

I had the same problem, freightliner century 2007 with Eaton 10 speed smart shift. Started with code 37, changed battery to tecu power supply and tecu ground wires, cleaned battery, cables and ground terminals. Did not work, changed transmission harness, did not work. Checked all electrical components, changed xy shifter, did not work. Changed all 3 speed sensors, did not work. Finally took apart tone wheel housing behind transmission, right in front of first yoke, the tone wheel was damaged. Replaced all parts in housing, put in another new speed sensor and that solved the problem. Truck shifts great again. [GALLERY=][/GALLERY]
