its funny to me that they always say that.. ask them if they have a "test" ecm to put on it..

I cant see the ecm affecting the transmission.. I could be wrong I have more experience with cars and medium duty trucks than the big rigs but I cant see why the big trucks would not have three modules ECM= engine control module. BCM= body control module(the one behind that panel I mentioned earlier) and finally TCM= transmission control module

We really don't know what to think. The mechanics changed a fuse that they thought could have been affecting the ECM. A few minutes after that the truck started running again.... The truck isn't running like normal though and there's something to do with the trans that keeps popping up on the module. The mechanics that were looking at the truck earlier said there was nothing more they can do. Sometime this month I guess we will be taking it to an international dealer to see what's going on.

I recommend going to a dealer quickly, not sometime this month.

let me ask this, did you have the dyno and ecm checked before you bought the truck? and if so were any codes present?

We got a dyno done and it passed with 87% power. I don't remember if we ever checked the ECM, or if I was or wasn't included the day we got the dyno done. This our first time being an owner operator and with the person we have been leased to we haven't made enough money to put any aside for the truck. Right now we have a nursery contract so the moment we can take it to an international dealer we will.

For issues like this, I hate to say it, but you need to go to the right shop. These trucks are all electronically controlled with lots of wiring. You need a mechanic who can properly connect to these modules with the proper software, not generic versions. You need the proper wire diagrams. Unfortunately, the dealer is about the only place to get all this. If the trans is dropping into neutral, it is likely also logging a fault code. Was he able to retrieve any codes at all? If so, what are they? Your truck is at the age where the wiring is getting weak. There is probably just a weak or corroded connection somewhere. Techs who work full time at an International dealer see those trucks every day and have the most experience with them over anyone else. ECU/ECM rarely go bad, 98% of the time it is wiring problem.

[SUP]ok . It's happening again. Electrical fault..... Can't start it up. The mechanics changed a fuse and it worked a couple days, now nothing.... How lovely....so we know we have two options. Option 1: somehow get it to an international dealer via tow or Option 2: call lone mountain leasing and [/SUP]

Ok , this may or may not help / apply to your truck.

Go to the batt box, see the cables ? See the smaller cluster coming off the positive? Prolly red, 5 to 6 wires ? You have that? That powers the critical systems in the truck like tranny brain, ECM etc. That must be clean back to the terminal. Any corrosion or oxidation ? Get a new one....from binder. There's also a fuseable link there somewhere....find it and run ohms check. Got to be under 8. Binder says hard wire around it or replace it.

Look at the negative.....same deal. See a cluster of 2 to 3 white wires coming off the neg terminal? Same thing, must be clean or if too bad, get new from binder. That's computer ground...big binder problem. Batts have to be good too. Load check them all. Suspect any one over a year old.

There's more...... head up into the fuse box. Got the nomenclature on the rear of the door ? See those pretty silver breakers with the colored push buttons on the bottom? Junk! Weak! Find the tripped one by seeing the color pushed out at you.....push it in ( key off )...... replace it , there's spares in the box too and one relay. That box is junk...vibrates loose, loses ground etc.

Binders have a big ground problem and other issues. The ECM plug is bad on my 14...one of the pins keeps vibrating out and confusing the computer. Binder engineer says it the UAW doing this cause we won't make a deal...says there is nothing wrong with his designs..... ahh ya c'mon.

But the big thing is those cables. Binder should have what you need. Also pick up a couple of short ones. Ground batt to cab and cab to frame and frame to motor. Check them, clean them whatever.

Lastly recycle key to reset systems. From off, go off on no start 4 times and start on 5th. That works on my 06, prolly does on yours too.

    Good luck

    ShelbyKay Thanks this.

Your problem sounds like something I have seen before. It ended up being a poor ground to the cab. Customer just came by the other day and said it's had no trouble since.
