Do you or know of anyone that drives truck and also has their spine fused? Right now I have an artificial disc at my L5-S1 and it is not working out for me. So the next thing will be getting me fused. The doctor at first when "selling" me the disc, stated that I would not be able to drive being fused and would cause more medical problems. This has been going on since Oct 2010 and still being dragged out.... Mentally drained.

    Any info would be great.

    Thank You.

I know a guy that had that done. The first day back to work I literally had to help him out of the truck and pack his things up for him and load his car up. That was a couple years ago and he still can't drive. Honestly I think you would be doing serious damage to get back in a truck

Disregard this, thought you were a wannabe.

Why would you wanna get back into the cab, knowing what you're gonna put your back through.

I have had two cervical fusions in my neck C-3 and C-4. The first one failed and I had to have it redone. I currently run produce to Alaska and see some of the worst roads out there. The frost heaves are brutal and are taking a toll on me and my neck. It can be done, but it depends a lot on your personal situation. I am currently looking at the Bose ride system and looking at other seat options.

I had 2 level fused in 2009 L4-S1 4 screws and 2 rods.I took 6 months off did not bother with rehab since 2 time I went I had to go back and take pain killers for a few days.I still have a bulge disk at L3-L4 and slight herniated at T12-L1.I even took job where I hand unload trailers after the surgery and I felt fine .After 1 year took job no touch for 2 years going NY-Ma everyday and I would be stiff at end of day.I would not worry about it and do whats best for your condition just remember if you can always get a second opinion from another dr to help with decision.

Well, here is a quick update for you. I just found out that I have collapsed the disc below my fusion and may need another fusion. It has been about ten years since my last fusion. All the other levels look good, but I will know more after I get an MRI done. I have some thinking to do about my future for sure. I will be 45 next month and do not really want to keep going at that rate.

I was just wondering about the same thing. I had a huge 4 inch mass of mersa on spine and caused a break and the fused my spine L4,L5 and i thought i would never walk again. They said i was lucky i wasnt paralyzed. Adter 6 months in a wheel chair i thre my walker and chair to the side and delt with the pain and pushed through it. I now have been walking on my own for 3 months and with now pain meds. I am trying to figure out if i can get back in truck or go back to nursing. Dont judge me. Lol

I don't think one will be too physical after such work on the spine. If the limiting is bad enough, you probably will be less active. Then weight gain will be a issue.
