I have been training for a little over 5 years now, and many of my student drivers tell me that they visited this forum before coming to Phase/EVO I, and that they wished more trainers were online to give advice.
So I figured I would attempt to add my services in that category.
I am a flatbed driver, but since I am also one of the small number of trainers that train Female students, I often am asked to pull a van for a couple weeks to train a Van Female.

Prepping a student to pass the ROEHL driving exam is pretty straight forward, just be able to upshift and downshift thru the gears, make a correct right and left turn, and be able to do a 45degree backing. Phase I does a great job of prepping students in that area so by the time they get to me on the open road, I am mostly dealing with the stuff that is not tested on.
The pre-trip and post trip inspection is taught so in depth in CDL school that many students correct me in that area.
As far as other areas that are not tested on such as following routes, reading road signs, maneuvering in/out of traffic. dealing with customers, load securement, logging etc...I just play it on a case by case basis. Some students are strong in some areas but weak in others, so we concentrate on any weak areas.
ROEHL's training program really sets a new driver up for success. I have had well over 100 students, and I can list on one hand, minus the thumb and pinky, the number of students I have trained that I would not have put into one of my own trucks once they were done.
Although there have been several students that I told my fleet manager needed a couple more days before I felt comfortable with saying they were ready to test.

Had several students over 50 and atleast half a dozen in their 60s.
Oldest was 66 years old and a retired airline pilot for Alaskan Airlines. Flew planes all his life starting as a crop duster, then flying tourists thru the Grand Canyon and finally getting on with Alaskan Airlines until they made him quit flying due to his age.
Said he didn't want to sit around the house all day so he decided to drive trucks..

What do you (the trainer) get paid while training vs running when not training?

What are the numbers that an applicant needs to strive for?
