I guess the idiots would rather have you blindly back out of that situation instead of a uturn.

Stories like this are why you see people coming on here everyday asking questions about buying there own truck and going out on there own. Cant say I blame them.

sorry to hear of this. hope it turns out ok for you.
u turns and company drivers is always a no no from what I remember.

if I was the safety guy this is my first question to you....why didnt you walk over here(dropyard) for some assistance when you know u turns are a no no? plus the dropyard had full visibility of you!

brown noser, hell no, hes a VERGINA that should be dealt with accordingly! what is this nark cindy freakin brady?!?!

They talked about it being a fireable offense when I was in orientation. I remember telling the instructor that if I had to make a U-Turn in order to prevent something like hitting a bridge, I was going to do it regardless of any company policy. I haven't run into that situation yet, but if and when I do, I plan to stop, take pictures, and enlist the help of the local PD if traffic is an issue. Document everything. I'd really like to see exactly how they'd fight that in court. Even a dumb attorney could win that one LOL.

However, I don't think it'll be a major issue. Although they retain the right to fire someone for making a u-turn, I've never heard of them doing it in a situation where there was no other choice. Now, if he had been too lazy to go up a few miles and turn around in a parking lot or make the block or something that's one thing, but firing you for refusing to proceed forward and hit a low clearance bridge is not something I see them doing (If he does work for Schneider, that is).

Most likely you'll get a slap on the wrist about the policy and a fun 30 minute lecture on proper trip planning and such. If someone tried to fire me for that, I'd go over their head. There's always someone higher up the chain, and eventually you'll run into someone with some common sense.

i think the op will be alright especially if he has been doing the company a good to outstanding job.he will probably get a reprimand of some kind and be on probation for a few months.I would certainly corner the driver that called in on you and ask why he did, killing him with kindness, but asking why was he trying to get you fired.that driver will also make a u turn when he has to.remind him of that.

Update. I have officialy resigned from schneider national. I was told that i would have too drop the truck at the nearest drop yard. Get a bus back too atlanta and have a meeting with the safety director. I decided too just get a bus home and NOT meet with the safety director. I already knew the end was near. Guess its time for me too find another company. At least my record is clean as a whistle.
