This may be common knowlege to some but not to others so....here we go!
For sake of this example you are fresh out of work. You have no company. Just a huge wad of cash. (Lets say six figures) and for some crazy reason you decided to spend money on your own truck.
The reason for the above is I don't want awnsers like "Lease onto...." or "Just let your company...." or anything like that.
The question is as follows:
You want to buy your truck, because you found the perfect one in....lets say Tootlyville AR, Unfortunatly for you, you live in skumsuck Colorado.
So how do you get your shiny truck, from lot to driveway in colorado.
What are the required steps?
Remember: No company. No Buisness. Just you. Money. Truck. And doing the various needed steps to transport your (Currently no-load-having, unemployed-but-brand-new-running truck)

Assuming you have arranged for the financing and the truck is completely paid for at the dealership, they would be happy to arrange any one of many driveaway companies to deliver the truck to any address you specify. It won't be all that expensive, probably about $2 a mile. Buddy of mine did exactly the same thing recently, lives in southern Indiana, bought a truck in Las Vegas NV. Delivered in about a week after the call to the driveaway company. Dealers do it all the time. Enjoy the new wheels.

You need to pay for a base plate (tag) have proof of INS and your IFTA. Base plate is about
1,700 in IN and IFTA about 9.00 you get Base plate and IFTA via Comdata if you have an account with them. if not then go to your local tax office to get it and the IRS for your IFTA.TruckerDragon Thanks this. -
You can drive it your self if you have a CDL.
Pay for temp tag.
Put full coverage insurance on it.
Fly, drive or walk to the truck. Sign a few papers and drive it home. Or as was suggested. Hire someone else to do it for you. If you drive it you will become more familiar with it and it's little quirks. Dealeships have all the info you need to go either way. Not a really difficult way to go having it delivered. Hopefully the delivering driver doesn't burn out the clutch or ding a fender for you.TruckerDragon Thanks this. -
When I bought my truck I had it delivered to my address. It was a lot easier than getting all of the required permits to get it home.

Everyone feels different about this. My recommendation would be to either fly out or drive out with someone and drive it home. I would personally like to look at it and drive it first when making that kind of investment. You can get coverage to drive it home with a phone call to your insurance co. The dealer may even be able to put a temp tag on it for you afterwards.

Op, you just need basic insurance and a temp plate from the dealer. It's not any different than buying a car and bringing it home. The only exception to this that I am aware of, is Connecticut. They are a pain in the ###.
Edit to add. The irs has NOTHING to do with ifta. What the hell are you smoking!?nofilter and TruckerDragon Thank this. -
IRS is for the 2290. not IFTA .
nofilter Thanks this. -
He will need his HVUT.... But it isn't for IFTA.... At least in Washington St. we have to have HVUT to get tags/plates.... Might be different in other states
nofilter Thanks this.
