Go Apply at Kimco Steel on John Counter in Kingston, work there for a year hauling heavy steel on tri's and quad's.. If you're lucky they will give you skateboard loads. After that you will be able to do anything.

My other suggestion, get the hell out of Kingston

I left that hole a year ago and moved to Vancouver - best decision i've ever made... But I guess I understand since you have a daughter...

    Good luck!

You can only make your own luck, there is no such thing as bad luck.

    Your phone calls...they do nothing.

You are not the only one calling around.

I got into flatbed right out of truck school out in SW Ontario. It is a great challenge, one I am still dealing with but it can be really satisfying finding new random places to pick or drop from everyday, strapping/chaining/tarping it all yourself (plus you get bonus for doing all these things).

I had the same problem as you, just call and call everyone. Sometimes that is not good enough.

You have to network. You have to get out there. Boots on the ground.

Go door to door, and if they can't hire you and train you on the spot ask them if they know anyone who is hiring new graduates. I bet if you went door to door to 5 companies at least one of them can refer you to someone who takes on new graduates.

Stop looking at job boards, kijiji, indeed or whatever. They are a terrible resource for new drivers, they all expect that we are master truck drivers with 2-3 years experience.

The company I work for did zero online advertising and you wouldnt even be able to find them online unless you knew the companies name.

It was only when I was turned down by my 9 or 10th company on a monday morning when I was driving around door to door, yes, it was only then that somebody asked me if I had tried my current employer as they take on new drivers. I went to that referral and they hired me on the spot.
