So say you have a (your drug of choice) on a weekend then go trucking on Monday. Start out on your route and a less than intelligent driver gets a piece of you, well guess who gets tested. It's a non-preventable but you still loose if your "dirty". Don't drive dirty,it will come back and bite you in the a@#. It's hard enough to get the job done safely..........

If your like me and like to have a drink from time to time the thing is you must keep it away from the job and make sure you have enough time before driving again.
When I drink I like to go to CVS where the beers cheep in quantity. I pick up a twelve pack , drink all night and have a couple of days to dry out. At least a day.

    Edit-that's a home of cource.

If you must, go out and get a room and make sure you have enough time and drink to limitations before getting back in the truck.
I like to get a room from time to time. You'll can find rooms are pretty cheep out on the road. $35 $40 bucks in some places. Shet if you ever been. To Peimm NV. They have the truckers promo at $25 dollers a room, and the rooms are nice to.

Wrong on the THC! If you smoke any amount(1 joint or more) it can stay and be found at the Lab test for up to about 45 Days! I worked at a drug and alcohol treatment facility for 8 yrs, we caught people ALL the time with Lab tests, most any drug lasts at least 3-4 days for a cup test, Labs can pick up smaller traces for longer and THC is the longest Benzo close 2nd! And Alcohol at Labs is 80 Hours!

Ya but unlike drugs alcohol is'nt illegal as long as your not under the influence or above the limits while driving.

A little responsability can go a long way. That's why I will always say if you must, go get somthing to drink. Just make sure it falls under the legal limits and time frame by law. Wich is .04 for class a drivers. That's probably a lot less than what a lot of cops do on they,re own free time before they go back to work driving they're squad cars around town doing they're own job.

Just want to weigh in here. I drink a bit, nothing too much. I also enjoy a good bowl of dank every now and again. However, since I chose trucking as a profession, I've had to abstain, even though I have been living in states that have allowed Marijuana *legally* for many years medically. I currently live in Washington State, where it is even legal for recreational use (as it should be). However, even though I would never drive a CMV high on any intoxicant, because Marijuana (a LEGAL substance in my state) lingers for a month or longer in my fat cells, and the feds refuse to acknowledge the rights and will of the people of Washington, Colorado, etc. I do not smoke. But, even if I did, driving a CMV 2 days after a couple bong loads does not mean I'm "high"... I don't want anyone driving anything while intoxicated, but let's be truthful here. The current system is unfair and does not recognize the rights of drivers to indulge in LEGAL substances in their off-time...

I would support very tough consequences for driving a CMV intoxicated, far more stringent than we have now. But at the same time, when I take my 2 week vacation, I should be able to follow the laws of my state and have a few tokes of some very delicious ganja... Safety is one thing; absurd, false, propagandist rules should be recognized as such. And besides, I firmly believe my driving with a couple of tokes is far better/safer than the majority of terrible drivers out there. Just sayin'. And before you berate me, no, obviously I don't do that, as I can pee clean any time...

[SUB][/SUB]Thank you well said, but one thing you failed to mention is while marijuana may be legal in some states it's still concidered illegal at the federal level. DOT is a federal organization and whom we are regulated by.

Meaning it apply's to us. So as it is,legalization may apply to some but not us in opperation.
Unless you wait some 30 days or longer like you said , wich is pretty unreal. You can not opperate a CMV with out legal risk.
I would think it would be stated in a list of warnings wene you get your medical card, wich most probably don't even read before running down to the smoke shop to cop a bag of cush.

But any prescription that is mind altering do have restrictionson on opperating heavy machinery and/ or equipment, especially drugs like xenex, oxycotton and other medications legally used by people every day all over the country.

Not trying to dank you, as unfair as it may seem I just want to make it clear to those who live in legalized states that may have a false perception of the law. I know you already know as you mentioned that part about the feds.

Also if you live in a legalized state and you happen to come on to land that is owned by the federal goverment you can still be charged for unlawfull possesion of it and/or possesion of paraphenhlia, as well as unlawfull use.

See I don't really get thanked that much becouse a lot of times I don't tell people what they want to hear, I lay down the facts.
