Applied to Swift few days ago.Lady called yesterday asked a few questions told me to take a few tests passed those last night, emailed her back she said I am ready to get my permit,so going Friday to get that she says its 3 weeks in Richmond,Va. Anyone else gone through this? What can I look forward to? I know its 13 months with them and I am sure I will hate the long trips and away from family time and crap loads but gotta get experience to get where I want to be and we can have a stable life.

I do not think you will hate it. Swift has slow trucks but they are a large company and they seem to know what they are doing. Being away from the family isn't as bad as it sounds as you do have a cell phone and being able to call anytime is a blessing. Just remember you are doing it for the family.
Puppage and GenericUserName Thank this. -
first year always sucks
pay sucks
but you are learning and need to prove your worth AND safety
depending on where u live you could get a local or LTL job after one year -
Depending on where you live, Swift has many local and dedicated fleet opportunities also, driving a daycab where you are home every night, so don't get discouraged and try to go in with a open mind and see what crops up.

The 13 month commitment will seem shorter than the 3 or 4 weeks with a trainer. Just take it one day at a time.

RedandBlack... you wouldn't happen to be in the Memphis area, would you?

I was just wondering. Guy I know in Memphis just got on board with the Swift program, so I was curious as to whether or not he'd found his way here.
