Police: Bicyclist struck, killed in Russellville semi accident

To me there's to many bicycles riding on our highway & byways. And it seem our law is giving them the right of way yet they're very slow. You would think that today they would keep such slow vehicles off of our highways & byways for safety reasons.

I was a big bicycle rider in my younger days yet there is no way I would get out here on our rural highways inviting everyone to hit me by slowly going down the highway.

too vague to comment but a 55yr old man should see a semi turning, even if the driver never saw the bike

if you look at the diagram and read the article and comprehend it , it seems the bicycle will be at fault .

here are the clues the truck was making a right hand turn onto to east street, which means he had to be traveling north, the bicyclist was traveling south and there fore was on the wrong side of the road going the wrong way when he was hit. remember he wasn't a pedestrian, he was on a bike and has to follow the rules of the road.

If you will reread my post I rightly did not say the truck driver was not at fault. So take another look before preaching.

In the article it seems that the truck drive may have been at fault.

I was speaking about all the bicycles that are on the open street & byways. its unsafe for them to be out there with trucks & car running 55 + MPH.

This was complained about on another newslink where a cabbie hit a kid, obviously at a crosswalk, said in some areas that bikes do not even stop at crossroads, they just go on through, and even pedestrians will cross an intersection when it is still red. I think people like to live dangerously not following the rules.

I hope for the sake of the driver they find he was not at fault. And this is in a small town that has a few businesses that ship from there, so even little towns are not safe from things like this happening.

Sorry for the bike rider and condolences to his family.

How about the ones where you are going up a mountain pass and people are passing you in the left lane so you can not get over, the shoulder is 4 feet wide but they have to hug the white line on a right hand curve.

I am not arguing their right to be there riding their bike but geeze have some common sense and move to the right side of the shoulder.

I wasn't speaking of your post, I was nipping in the bud , the usual crowd here that seems to always blame the truckdriver, just getting a head start on it.

Hey EZ you need to expand this list of portraits or maybe you should just put out an album. Plenty more photos belong up there.

Lately I've seen 2 articles in my state where they charged the driver when the bicycle was on the road at night time, had no lights, or reflective gear. In the articles its stated the bicycle has the right-a-way. I have no idea if that is correct or not.

One of the incident cause the death of a young college woman riding city streets after 1:00 AM in the morning.

Now I don't know how it all turned out yet can you imagine how it would feel to hit someone on a bicycle that you cannot see & be charged?

It would be bad enough that such a thing happens to a driver of a car or a tuck.

Crosswalks, well one needs to be very careful at crosswalks & not hit anyone in a crosswalk.

But on the open road slow moving vehicles are a big danger.

Seems it use to be a law a 2 wheel vehicle had to have at least a certain horsepower before they could be on the highways, seems its been done away with.

I once hit a slow moving truck pulling a cotton wagon, the speed limit was 75 MPH, they had it posted you had to be going at least 40 MPH, the truck pulling the cotton wagon was going 15 MPH, & they gave me a ticket, there was no injuries. No I did not fight it, it was out of state. I just paid my $75.00!

Anything going slow is a danger to everyone.
