Of course it's true. It's easier to do less than it is to do more. Even if you don't have to dedicate a lot of brain power to doing it, it still requires more effort to accomplish the same effect in a manual than an automatic. Thus, by default, it's easier.

Also, my apologies for taking your previous post as being confrontational. Its brevity did seem to come across as contemptible. I do appreciate the thought you put into this one.

And as a parting note, you may not have used jake brakes, but I'm willing to bet you used a Johnson bar. Of the two, I'd prefer a Johnny bar and downshifting over riding jakes any day.

Ran a Mack pioneering logging roads in the early 80's. 5x4x2. Last stick was a hi-lo range. That took a few days to figure out the lo-hi range compatibility to main box/auxiliary box gear selection. No wonder my knees and elbows are shot.

Writing on the wall? Let the megas like swift go to autos. Way more expensive to fix and a lot more than can go wrong. If one knows how to drive a manual he will get better fuel mileage. I like the idea these mega company drivers will be limited as to where they can drive based on the fact they won't know how to drive a real truck and will just have to keep getting the shaft where they are.
Ease of driving? Really? I bet you would rather stay in your bunk and drive too. Too lazy to shift gears? Unreal.
Save the lame pro auto arguments for those that don't know any better. I would nevereven consider an auto but then I would never buy a volvo either.

I see a lot of big time truck drivers jump out of the bunk and **** on the tires and call that a PTI, has nothing to do with what transmission is in the truck.
