My understanding of how loads are offered to O/Os is that you guys usually reserve the right to refuse a load if you guys dont want to run it. After working with a particular dispatcher, that dispatch probably learns your preferences for a load and the number of rejections probably become less frequent. For example, you want a certain amount per mile, you will only drive certain days or the week, etc. What are the things you think youre dispatcher already know about your load preferences? Please list everything - even the very obvious. Trying to collect some research for school

Most of the time under a system of dispatch like you describe an owner who turns down a lot of loads gets a bad reputation and ends up getting bull #### loads all the time until they get aggravated and quit. The idea for dispatch is to cover loads. Your personal likes or dislikes never really enter the equation. On the other hand, if you've been at a company for about 10 years or so, and been thru the good and the bad without complaint, likely you'll get better loads and get the benefit of the doubt if you turn them down on occassion. But hiring on somewhere that they dispatch trucks, and they told you that you could turn anything down, sure you can, but there'll be hell to pay when you do. I know they tell you it's ok, and they sound believable, but it really doesn't work that way in the real world all you do is make life difficult for someone trying to cover loads. If you want to pick and set all the parameters the only real way to do it load after load is self dispatch.

$5 a mile,no deadhead,route me thru the house everyday,2000 miles a week,no touch freight,no appointements after 1pm.joking aside,work for mercer and you could turn down all the loads you want and nobody will hold it against you and the dispatcher will keep offering you loads that meet the parameters you set.

Not over-weight. Not going out of state and no loads after 3pm. She had to find out the hard way.

So, over at mercer, what're the parameters you set? You mentioned some of them in jest, but what are they really? -
What do you mean by no loads after 3pm? No pick ups after 3pm? -
the parameters are things like no loads less than 1.80 to the truck, no dh further than 150 miles, nothing over 6 foot tarp, nothing over 45,000 pounds , loads to certain areas, and etc etc etc. -

Does forced dispatch include assigning you loads when you gave the company permission to assing you loads during certain dates (even if they didnt ask you about a particular load)?
