I work on a Schneider dedicated account on a 5 on, 2 off assignment. Often I get a third day off, Saturday, because freight is slow that day. I get home most nights, which is nice, but I also have only been working 4-5 days a week for 40 or so hours a week. I was told I would drive about 2100 miles a week. I haven't ever been anywhere close to that. It's obvious that there are too many drivers for this account.

To help compensate for the lack of loads sometimes I'm given loads for two other dedicated accounts near by. One is for Sears, who seem to have a hard time keeping their appointments, and the other one I did for the past two days is Wal-mart. Wal-mart forces drivers to put cheap locks on their trailers that anyone could cut off with a 20$ bolt cutter, which I didn't know, which caused me to be delayed, of course, for Schneider, you don't get paid. You don't get paid when they give you a trailer with a flat tire and you have to wait two hours to get it changed, you don't get paid when you get lost because their Qualcomm directions are wrong, you don't get paid to drive from the edge of the city to the actual store where you deliver at. Another driver said that a GPS is a necessity, but I think it's ridiculous that I would have to pay 400$ for a GPS because Schneider can't give logical directions. Even if their directions are right, they'll send you on the shortest, most inefficient way to go, and it's up to you to figure out the practical way, if you can.

So I get my walmart load yesterday and trip plan it so I have just enough time to do it and get home because today is my day off. I get to my last stop, a Sam's Club, and the delivery window shows 400-2315. I get there at 1830, and the manager tells me that Sam's Club doesn't ever take deliveries before 2100. She said that often driver's drop and hook. I sent a Qualcomm message asking if I could do a drop and hook, no one answered, so I did it and drove back. If I would have waited until 2100 I would have later ran out of hours before making it home and would have lost a lot of my home time. I got back to the distribution center 3 hours from when I sent my message. As soon as I pulled through the gate I got a reply telling me to take the empty trailer back and pick up the other one. There was no way I was going to do that. I went into the office and asked why in the hell it took 3 hours to respond to a qualcomm message and he blamed it on someone else. Then I asked why in the hell I was given a delivery window of 400-2315 when Sam's Club doesn't deliver until after 2100 and dude tells me "well we just look at the ending time, our drivers just know they don't unload before 9." And he acts like I'm some kind of idiot for not knowing that, like I'm an idiot for not knowing walmart puts cheap locks on their trailers.

It seems like everyday it's something. If I can get a load somethings wrong with it, something needs repaired, directions are bad, I don't telepathically know everything I'm supposed to. I can't wait until I get my year in and turn 22 and can get a better job. I just want want competent office staff, practical pay, practical directions, and I want to get paid for the work I do. And I don't want some b-s about some bonus I'll never get. What's ridiculous is this is the best driving job I can get.

If you don't like it then just wait for your first year to be up & find something better. Once you have a full year under your belt you will be much better off.

Schneider Contrat is now 1 1/2 years, not 1 year
you might want to read your contract again

For one, he never said he had a contract with them.

It seems to be that the problem is with the particular accounts. And from what I gather, your issue in particular is with the other accounts you run...you didn't seem to gripe about the one you run during the week.

One of the biggest things is that you don't run those normally so you don't know what is commonplace with them. What I mean is that...just as with every job, there is stuff that a newb should know...but nobody tells them because they dont think of it because its so much second nature.

Also, Schneider Logistics has alot to do with the dedicated accounts...you might want to get hold of them and point the issue out with the unloading times.

What you have to deal with and dealt with, is something that many drivers deal with on a daily basis. I get flats too, I don't get paid either...but I get them taken care of. Today when I got back and parked
the truck...I noticed it was jerky while braking...more than I like. I could have just waved the "NIMBY" flag...but instead, I got under the trailer, crawled around and did a looksee and opened the air tanks.

You also failed to mention where you sent in another Macro updating the directions for future drivers. They have that in place JUST for the very situations you point out...if their directions are bad, get em fixed...send in the appropriate macro to do so.

As far as their pay...they pay HHMG miles...which most companys pay. It goes from zip code to zip code I believe. But at the same time, they give you lots of out of route to make up for it without getting dinged. In the end, it pretty much undercuts your pay 10%....but as a trainer once told me...it is what it is.

Another suggestion is that if you don't know the answer...don't assume you do and proceed. Wait for the answer, or call in. I understand your point in not wanting to wait...but since you left without their reply...that created an issue for them.

Again, Schneider is NOT a bad company...just seems that you are working with bad accounts.

Can you post a pic on how big the lock is supposed to be? I might be able to help you.

Uhmm its a she not a he.

Said right up front that her account has too many drivers thus low miles thus having to work other accounts.

Waiting over three hours for a response is unacceptable from any company. She didn't create a problem for them they created one for themselves by being so tardy.

I briefly looked at the punkin' patch to pull bulk and saw the were still paying short miles, needless to say that made that choice easy. If your company is gonna screw ya from day one then why bother really?

Why does a new driver have to learn that their employer can't get simple info such as del. windows correct? Seems to me it would be much easy for them to get their stuff straight. I can see occasional typos with times but what you folks deal with seems, well... retarded.

By the way did draining your air tanks fix the jerky braking?

No, she said it was obvious they had too many drivers. That doesnt mean they DO have too many drivers, that was just her opinion.
What I mean is that, they have just the right number of drivers, its the fact that freight is slow...thats the problem. Schneider dedicated sets up each accoutn by working with Schneider Logistics to create the account, figuring out what they need as far as equipment, maintenance, docks, drivers....etc. However, with the current nose dive that the economy has taken, freight has slowed down. They don't add drivers during times when freight is low and they already have enough drivers; last thing they need or would allow is more drivers to add up their fuel costs when it isn't needed.
To compensate, she said they are given loads for other ded accounts.

SHE waited over three hours. Lol when do you as a driver draw the line between waiting and picking up the phone and calling in? 6 hours, 1 day...4 weeks? If I send in a QC message for maintenance, I will ALSO call in SEM and talk to them directly. That way, it allows my qc message to be worked on as I wait on the phone...and if I get someone on the phone, I can tell them to cancel out the qc message.
I could use the excuse of Schneiders large fleet...but she works on a dedicated account and so as such, her messages go to her account that she works on, not green bay. So when she works for other accounts, her messages might not get to the right account DBL.
For example...Im based out of Denver...my messages go there. If on a weekend, I worked out of Bobs Waffle House dedicated account and sent them a message...they won't get it because my messages as far as freeform and such are set to go to Denver. They probably don't switch over from one account to another for messages.
The dedicated accounts, as far as I know...all have direct numbers to their account offices. If I have a question or wahtever, I call right in and immediately am on the phone with one of five people at the office down there.
Soemtimes you have to wait for a load, but I can't see why one shoudl wait for hours for a reply message, when they can ALSo at the same time try calling in.

Couldn't figure out what it was.

Ah Didn't realize you were seeking an answer about the brakes sorry. Letting the air out was as you found kinda pointless(Although it isn't a bad idea to bleed tanks from time to time to keep the water out). Not seeing it or feeling it I would hazard a guess that you had an autoslack that was to tight. I'm guessing this trlr was either m/t or light which is why you noticed the grabbiness. If it had weight on that would have smoothed it out. If you have autoslacks(And I assume you do) then you are as we say in my end of the world "Screwed". Don't try to back off an autoslack as that you will ruin it. Running with weight aboard will righten it soon enough. If however you have the old fashioned style of slack adjusters you can back them off a half turn or so. This would solve your problem. Hope that helps in the future and you may now say nice things about me to your family.
