Earlier this week I went thru chowchilla and got a violation for a "discolored air brake hose". Took it to our corporate safety guy, and was advised to have our mechanic fix it. I get to work and our mechanic says, dont worry about it man you have 30 days to fix it. He says we will get it fixed later in the week...

Going through chowchilla the next night and got flagged for yet another level 1 inspection. It is the same exact DOT officer from last night. We exchanged uncomfortable grins and I said , oh man my company told me that I have 30 days to get it fixed. He says yeah that is correct but you can't drive the truck until you get it fixed.

I was put out of service and waited for 2 hours for our mechanic to come fix the hose. They signed off at inspection, cleared the truck and gave me the sticker.

So anyways does this go on my record or is it the company's problem? ?

Every contact is recorded. You get points for warnings. It sucks.

It's a shame you work for a company that doesn't care about their drivers like that... it's time to find a better employer.

    is it 30 days now?

i thought it was 14 days that the report had to be signed and sent in.

it's both yours and company problem.

I think I had same officer, said a brake line was worn to the 2nd color. Once taken to mechanic, there is no 2nd color. Total BS reason.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Hope you learned your lesson. If you know its a violation, don't move the truck till they fix it. And if the shop/safety people give you a hard time, get DOT on the phone.

If you let these companies walk all over you...they will.

Brake lines are BLUE and RED, nothing else, ANY other color will get you a VIOLATION. Look it up in the green bible. Like I said before...Ignorance of the law is no excuse!
