    Hi Joseph.

I am sorry that I missed this post earlier. I suppose I got caught up in the drama and caught myself almost looking for a conflict... Anyways, it would take so long to type up ALL of that information but I can give you the best that I can remember and what I would consider the most important(and remember it's been a little while since I left)

They had a sliding pay scale, where they were telling drivers they could make anywhere from like .28 to .75 cents per mile(these may not be exact numbers). Recruiters were told to emphasize the .75 cents per mile, but that is only for loads less than either 50 or 100 miles( I can't remember which). What can be so misleading is that it isn't technically the loads that they count, it is the total miles in a day. For example, if you had three 90 mile deliveries in one day, you would not get the large short haul pay. This was something they didn't really tell the recruiters.

The benefits were probably the part that bothered me more than anything else, particularly the health insurance(this was before Obamacare, so it may have changed), but at the time, insurance was only $25-$30 dollars a week for an individual. Cheap right? Wrong. The catch is that the maximum yearly coverage was only $25,000, so if someone gets seriously ill and racks up $100,000 in medical bills, the driver is responsible for the additional $75,000. To me, this almost completely defeats the main reason someone pays money for medical insurance. I can also say that if this hasn't changed, it is not a valid insurance policy under the new Obamacare. Please keep the valid questions coming.

man, dude was just trying to help and most ya'll just harshed his mellow.

Sorry, bro. But most of us have a hard time with folks who've spent the last few years lying to people, and in many, many cases, ruining their lives. It's one thing to start a job and then figure out that it's a real bad deal. But it's another thing entirely to figure out what kind of low life's you're dealing with and then lure new guys into the same pit of hell knowing just how bad it's gonna be. And, frankly, to some degree I can understand how the economy over the last few years might have had something to do with justifying screwing over people on commission; but, well, anyway I think that's how a lot of folks feel about it.

You did a bad thing, bro....real bad. And I don't think you really, really realize just how many people you jacked over and how many lives were changed for the worse because of what you told people. Life should be about making the place a happier place; not chasing quotas and becoming "Recruiter of the Month" and bringing people into situations you know for a natural fact will turn out bad.....

Anyway, I hope this new day finds you in a happier and more honorable place. Good luck, brother.

P.S. Coming onto this site to cleanse your soul by warning people of the dangers of Western Express is late and redundant......we've already done all we could do.

Did any of you recruiters bring up your issues with the way Western Express treated drivers ?

Was anyone concerned that you might be giving keys to a driver who might kill a family while their out on the road ?

I agree that you should report Western Express to the FMCSA and to anyone else who will listen.

Advice123 is trying to help. He woke up, we do not know how long he was on the Dark side . But now he is here to shine some light into the darkness .
He is correct ! A lot of people painted them selves into the corner they are in. Seems not a week goes by that someone new is asking about hair testing .

So there you go ! Nothing against you just saying that these big companies are hiring guys right out of college that doesn't have a clue about real life much less trucking. I deal with TQL brokers calling me all the time and I didn't have my head that far up my ### at that age as these guys do. Until trucking GETS TO BE A PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS AS IT SHOULD BE there's gonna be the shafters in the market. Yea I can back all this up. PM me if you want to know !

My time a WE was short lived... I sign up for their refresher course, should have gotten off the van
when on our way for DOT medical the driver said if you know you have drugs in your system get off now and come back when you are clean.I only stayed for 8 days, thats all the time I could deal with a ex_con who treated me like i'm a child
I got off his truck caught a ride from a next trucker back home to NY......my recruiter told me I could come back
she would set me up with a new trainer.I did not waste my time when I realize the only paid me $145 for eight days of work running team.Everytime I call payroll they tell me to call Ken Parks who never picked up his phone

After leaving trucking a number of years ago, I remember having an informal conversation with a recruiter from one of the large national companies and he told me this. " I really don't have to lie to a new recruit, I just have to not tell him what he really needs to know. A lot of I'll get back to you with that info or let me check on that with someone higher up will hold them. I can tell them what the company tells me are the facts and sleep well at night. All I have to do is paint a rosey picture and at some point they'll help me hold the brush."
