His original point was he doesn't WANT any hours-of-service regulations, because he wants to drive exhausted and put other people at risk.
Any hope the 34 hour rule will get repealed?

Not just getting in and driving till they drop. -
quickly off the top of my head, Henry Ford, before the government got involved in telling businesses how much they had to pay. Now so many people depend on the government to tell them what to do, it has become peoples ONLY thought pattern. -
I was in management at the middle level. I had to deal with employee issues and then the upper management and the treatment of the employees.
I had many experiences with upper management and their opinions of the rules that made them pay employees for work. They desired to drop all pay to 1.00 an hour all for profit. -
And forget the shippers/recievers: if they could bypass us all, they would. Heck, if they could eliminate all of their employees, they would (yes, I know, the trucking companies would do the same thing). -

The real problem right now is the entire "it's just business" attitude, or "profit at any cost"--including the cost of human life. By relaxing or eliminating regulations, we've regressed to about the 1900s or so, in terms of ripoff services, products and scams. Trucking has regressed, too, in that they get to skirt employment laws. With the latest changes in hourly wages and such, we've regressed as well, in that it's almost impossible for an ordinary worker to get a full-time hourly job with benefits and overtimd--heck, even salaried workers are now being forced into "contractor" designations, so the employers can avoid paying benefits and any overtime.
It's all a ripoff designed to increase profits to obscene levels, at the expense of the workers being driven into poverty.
Obviously, deregulation has done nothing for us, and none of the profits are "trickling down". -
And those upper management did not understand business, but only greed. The companies that prosper and grow, even today, are the ones that value their employees, and treat them with respect, regardless of government regulations.
and here is a list of companies, that actually take care of their employees...

There are people who actually KNOW that their employees are their business, and value them as such. And those people would continue to do so without government regulations... they do NOT depend on the government, they do NOT look to the government to solve their problems, they depend on their company, and the people.
Toyota USA is another company today, that excels, above and beyond government regulations, as it is the business culture to engage and respect the employee.
And another company the respects their employees, VW USA...Lux Prometheus Thanks this. -
Any business that looks at "profit at any cost" will fail, without government support...
The business that looks to their employees, to provide a needed service, or product, that is a value to the customer, are the ones that easily make a profit.
History teaches us that government regulations drive businesses away, to less regulated markets, even within the USA.cowboy_tech Thanks this.
