Since the HOS isn't working and never will work,would'nt surprise me if they change it to normal working hrs 9 hrs a day.If that does happen then companies better pay drivers by the hr.

 

I like persons idea of cars in every other lane, to improve on that all cars on state highways none on interstate. Remove truck restrictions on interstates, raise all necessary bridges and only allow trucks off interstates for places to park and deliveries

 

The HOS hours "work" but could use some tweaking and undoing of a few aspects. No way the industry (OTR) will ever go to a pay-by-the-hour model. Too many drivers who will milk the system, too many carriers who will milk the system. in the OTR, truckload world, nothing wrong with mileage pay. It keeps everybody honest and productive. Detention pay is getting better, more widely accepted and offered, and more dependable by the year and that's the best you can hope for.

 

You need to put down the pipe and step away and allow yourself to operate within reality I guess I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're being facetious but somehow I'm not sure.

 

True but how much milking can be done on 40 or 50 hrs max a week?When u think about it thats what companies are paying now with more hrs of free labor.

 

Drivers can apply at any DC, but once hired, they must remain domiciled there for a minimum of one year before attempting to transfer to a different DC. I personally do not like this because it can result in a driver traveling hundreds (or thousands) or miles when coming off time off and none of this time being logged on duty, yet contribute to fatigue. The driver in the the NJ wreck may have returned from time off prior to going on duty and having this accident. I know on my return to work days just driving 78 miles back to the DC made the first day back longer, so I usually didn't even run the full 14 hours those days.

 

40 - 50 hours max work per week? What OTR driver wants to be cooped up in a hot truck with an APU that barely works, waiting in a mud hole for 15 hours each and every day? I can tolerate killing 10 hours/day in a parked truck not making money, but 15? Hell no.

I hear what you're saying and do agree but with what has happened,be prepared for anything.As I have said many times thruout this forum since ive been a member,most the trk drivers are excellent drivers and ashame for one accident we all take the heat when that one driver should be penalized not the entire industry.Companies with a bad score should get hit not the entire industry..Alot of companies and drivers follow the laws to the letter and have good safety scores to prove it but yet they get penalized.Laws are very unfair.Hard to near impossible to make a decent living in this industry like it once was.

 

Elogs are not to blame in this accident or any other accidents we see and hear about.Truckers are big boys and girls and don't need elogs to tell them when they are tired and when its time to stop for the night.I don't care how hard FMCSA tries to stop tired truckers,it just ain't gonna happen simple as that.Its all about money in this industry,especially for drivers.So many will stop at nothing to make money even if they are tired as long as they have the legal hrs to do so.Companies aren't any better,once they see u have hrs you are required to start your shift and telling your dispatcher you're tired is out of the question.
