comedian Tracy Morgan hurt in bus/truck crash

HOS, logbooks, ELD, or driver facing camera cannot enforce responsible behavior. Great for affixing blame after the fact, but quite poor at preventing anything. Someone that is determined to drive when fatigued, whether motivated by personal enrichment or coerced by a carrier, will do so no matter what sort of technology gets employed.

Unfortunately, this tragedy will only invite more worthless solutions to a problem they don't solve.

Tonight's CBS Evening News just did a report on this accident and said the driver "...had not slept for over 24 hours before the crash." They then went on to talk about how the government has been working to reduce driver fatigue within the trucking industry. Although I do feel sorry for the family and friends of the deceased victim, these high profile cases will be likely to create even tighter restrictions on all drivers across the board.

That's the publics perception of truckers for sure... IF they only knew...

 

Indeed, CBS news reported that tonight....no sleep in the last 24 hours and of course they tied it to the elog. ( How do they know this as fact???) Seems the ATA has been lobbying to change the 34 and remove the 1-5 provisions......and were actually doing pretty well...until this.

Seems the ATA is in hot water with Anne anyway, while they were asking her to ease the rules they were lobbying congress to cut off certain funding so they could get their way and she found out. She is not a happy camper. They were also beaching about a picture on the wall of the lobby at Anne house, shows a wrecked truck. They want her to change it, tarnishes the trucker image they said.

CBS went on to hammer us with driver can work 70 hrs a week and 14 hours a day ( which we can ) but a ley person is going to be shocked by those numbers.....they have no idea.

Here we go again....a second elog to watch the first and now potty cams.

well your one of those not waiting for the police to finalize what happened, you just reading the media reports and going with them. There have been so many different versions out there , Why not wait for the investigation to end....
