My husband works for CRST right now. He is 3 weeks away from his 8th month being a driver. He drives with a co driver, and has had 3 since Feb. They won't let him run solo. His checks are small. I was laid off almost a year ago, and he is the sole bread winner. We are trying to find a company that is paying decent. He drives expedited dry van. He wants solo because these co drivers are leaving the company and he's not making any money. He makes less then $500 a week, and just started getting paid $.32 cpm. He wants medical, 401k, vacation pay, home time when he needs it ( at least 4-5 days per month) consistent miles and layover pay when he sits. Right now he has been sitting for 3 days because his co driver got off the truck and is not coming back, but my husband won't get layover pay. We are in GA, and may move to VA or FL next year, so we need a company that is hiring in these areas. I've heard some companies dropped employees for moving into a state they don't hire in.
Looking for a good company

There's plenty of options right there in GA. I know it's a ways a way, but 1 year will get him in the door at a lot better places.
Chinatown and bettylee1204 Thank this. -
Here's some good high paying companies with good benefits and pay:
Tyson Foods - not sure if they hire in FL
Melton Truck Lines
Schneider Bulk
CTL Transportation
Superior Carriers
Trimac
Tidewater Transit
SVTN
Majority tanker companies he can "take home" a grand or more a week.bettylee1204 Thanks this. -
We were looking at tanker and flatbed, but he doesn't have the experience.

He is trying to last a year, and is trying to be a trainer for his last few months. The pay will be better and it will look better on his resume. He was asked to be a trainer last month, but they haven't set him up with the class to be one. Every company we have looked into, we get bombarded with bad reviews. Heartland is suppose to be the top paying company, but they have bad reviews. K & B sounded good, until we read the reviews. A lot of companies want a year experience and a handful will take 6 months, but the reviews are putting us off. I would like to ride along with him too, but only in the summer. We have a dog that I want him to take with him on the road.

He doesn't need experience for the companies I listed.
Submit online applications for him right now with these companies and he will have job offers in a couple of days. You can set up orientation for whenever you want.
He's 3 weeks away from finishing his contract, so set up an orientation for that.
Each company will train him for their specific needs during orientation.48Packard and bettylee1204 Thank this. -

Just thought of this company; check the website. Benny Whitehead, Inc.
Smaller 70 truck company running mostly refrigerated freight between Florida/Southeast and West Coast/Pacific Northwest. They sometimes hire new CDL grads, so your husband may be good to go.
Every tractor is equipped with Qualcomm satellite communications and XM Radios.
bettylee1204, 48Packard and joseph1135 Thank this. -
Check out Big G Express out of Shelbyville TN. They are a great company. Starting pay is .35 cpm, Blue Cross insurance from day one, Employee owned so you get free stock shares each year for retirement and they offer 401k also. I average ~2500 miles per week and home every weekend.
There is a recent thread over in the Favorite Trucking Companies board with a lot more info or you can PM if you have any specific questions. Best of luck.bettylee1204 Thanks this. -
