I hate to quote Dear Abby but what you are asking fits right in to her wheel house.

A man wrote into Dear Abby and had a problem. He had always wanted to go to Medical School but could not afford it when he was young. He was 48 and had the money now but going to College, then medical school, then serving an internship would take him 12 years and he would be 60 by the time he could become a doctor. What should he do? Her reply was short. "How old will you be in 12 years if you don't become a Doctor."

The idea of being too old to work is something that started back in the Great Depression. Retirement was not something people did before that. There was great unemployment and the young people with kids were desperate for jobs. Social Security was a way to pay people to "retire" and let the younger ones work. You stopped working at 65 and died at 67. Now folks live to be 100 and Social Security is going broke.

I encourage you to work as long as you want to. Driving a truck with Cruise Control, Automatics, Power steering and brakes, air conditioning, isn't exactly like storming the beaches at Normandy. Check your pulse. If you have one, Swift will hire you. If you don't have a pulse, apply at CR England.

As I always preach, if you're going to do this, get all the endorsements, TWIC, passport. May as well start your new career making good money.

I couldn't agree more ! Face your fears..... Live your dreams ! No regrets.

There are an awful lot of young drivers in terrible shape, can barely walk, haven't been able to see their feet for years, they some how pass the physical, but never pass on Mickey D's. lol

    GO FOR IT !!!!!

When I got my cdl at age 57 and I applied for a driving job with my clean driving record, my clean drug history, and my clean background check, I got a job on the spot four times. If you have a clean record, you will be hired by anyplace that you apply that needs a driver.......your age is not an issue. I have companies calling me and emailing me every week to fill out an application for them.

Had a great friend started doing P&D LTL at 58 years young. Sure he was already involved in trucking before that. but 58 starting P&D. Work smarter not harder he always said.

    Good luck to you OP.

PS: he was hired at a company called ABF freight . some hillbilly outfit from the south. may have heard of it.they have the ugly green sterlings with yellow lettering and gray trailers.

Dead would probably be pushing it, but still might slide in some cases. Anything before that point and you should be good to go.
